Jesus christ. I am so tired of hearing that DW isn't fast. He is a burner. Here are the facts. Woodhead, the all time leading rusher in NCAA history did not receive a invite to the NFL Scouting Combine so he had to use his pro day to show his abilities. According to a report on NFLDraftWatch.net, he ran the 40-yard dash in a time of 4.33 to 4.38 seconds which would have been the second-fastest among all running backs at the NFL Combine in March 2008. He posted the best pro-agility time of 4.03 seconds, the second-best vertical jump (38? inches) and the best 60-yard shuttle time (11.2 seconds). DON'T OPEN YOUR FUCKING MOUTH IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT!
Hahaha, I actually did say it a few pages back. I said that if he could punt it would be the only way he makes the team.
And the Jets traded up for D Robertson and drafted Vernon Gholston based on those gaudy numbers and workout performances. Let's see it on the field against 1st string quality NFL players before we annoint the kid into Canton. One thing I've learned in football is -the only number that means shit is W's and L's
OK for starters who the hell is putting him in canton? we are just trying to give valid arguments for him making our roster. AtlantaJF is refuting the claim DW is not fast, and is not agile and things of the like. I posted earlier about Rod Boone's blog and the quote he got from Rex stating DW has the best hands in the backfield, and yes that does include Washington. Also just because he hasnt been given a shot against the 1st stringers doesnt mean he can't. Also no one can deny that Gholston and Roberston werent physical freaks at the combine, because they were/are just because it didnt translate to the field doesnt mean they werent incredibly strong and fast. Woodheads numbers combined with his play and TC and work ethic show that he has the physical attributes and that he has the football ability to play in the NFL
Well let's see in various threads, I 've seen suggestions he should replace Leon or Leonard ( on KO/PR). I've seen suggestions that he should be in a two RB backfield set with Leon, and numerous suggestions he should be our slot reciever to fix our WR "problem". Best of all I've even read a comparison of him to Steve Smith. The kid has proven nothing yet in any of these facets at the NFL level. Putting up numbers in college or compiling yardage against 3rd stringers in preseason does not prove a thing. Yes he has the physical attributes and heart to play - or else he wouldn't have been on our TC roster. Saying he has the football ability to play in the NFL at this point is a bit premature. If we lacked depth at RB , I'd be all for him making the team. But we're pretty stacked there and need depth at other positions. Do we sacrifice a roster spot for a feel good story who may never see the field. Granted he may turn into the next Bruce Harper , but at this point can we really waste the roster spot.
No, we can't. We can't carry two fullbacks when a Guard or TE can be used to duplicate the same skill. We do however need someone that can play behind leon if either Leon or TJ gets hurt.
Please tell me you're not serious. If we were to bring in a 3rd TE, I could see using him as our backup fullback. Are you actually going to suggest that a freaking GUARD duplicates the same skill set as a fullback? That's ludicrous.
I agree it's about performance on the field, but I just get tired of people with their facts wrong. All the pro day stuff shows is that he has speed and athleticism. It don't mean shit if you can't produce. Can he produce? I don't know. He showed that he can on one night. I think he gets a shot. In reality though this is a nice story but the season is going be about Leon, Sanchez and the defense.
Ludicrous? Go back and look at film from last year. On the 'we have to have it' they were bringing in Robert Turner... The only difference in short yardage is he gets a running start into the hole. Of course you cant duplicate the quick hand off to the up back, nor can you expect a guard to get down the field.... But...It's easier to find an H Back or a FB midseason. you can't coach speed and instinct.
ONe night? How many collegiate yards? He's proved more in the Pros than mark Sanchez has (the ability to come back from a devastating injury), yet none of us doubt #6
Collegiate yards - cmon . We're talking Chadron State College. Impress me, w/o using google name me one of the fearsome opponents of Chadron State. And you want to compare him to Mark Sanchez - apples and oranges my friend. Now is it possible for players from small schools to make it big - absolutely, guys like Jerry Rice, Joe Klecko , Terrell Owens come to mind. Bottom line is there is no reasonable spot on this team for Woodhead, if he makes the team it will be at the sacrifice of important depth at another position.
I may be wrong but I think Don Beebe went to Chadron State? BTW I do know w/o googling one team they play.... Mesa State in Colorado (I only know that because a buddy of mine's son plays at Mesa.)
well normally it wouldnt matter, but when he graduated Woodhead was the NCAA ALL TIME RUSHING LEADER. Nobody had ever run for that many yards in the history of college football, it doesnt matter where he played, that it elite production. and its not like great players can't come from low quality schools, look at Flacco he came out of delaware for crying out loud!
Listen , I'm done arguing my point. If he makes the roster I'll root for him because he's a Jet , but if he gets any playing time whatsoever it probably means we're in trouble because of injury issues.
And I'll bet you hate the fact you said he wouldn't at least 6 or 7 times. Danny Woodhead, who set a Jets preseason record Thursday night with 158 rushing yards, has made the club according to Dave Hutchinson of the Newark Star Ledger. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2009/09/05/solid-woodhead-makes-it-with-jets/
