who is freaking out about it? no-one cares if he goes to another team in the division it's not like we are challenging for the top spot it is more just speculation as to where he might land
I really can’t fault all on this on JD. If he is a firm believer like I or many here to have quality RBs splitting duties ala Falcons, Lions, Ravens and Dolphins, at least JD tried. But he struck out with Cook as many here believed he was either done or the Jets had enough quality RBs to begin with. I too blame the coaching staff because I thought he was a good receiver. They hardly use Cook as a receiver threat
Sort of like, OMG it will be so Jets like to let him go to our division for starters. Like we should care. Having said that, I’m betting that wherever he goes he will be a lot more successful. Our entire OC staff starting with the OL coach are massively incompetent.
The fact that he was signed at all, and was as useless as tits on a bull, is COMPLETELY on Joe Douglas
Same message the Elijah Moore trade sent last year. If you make enough noise, the front office will cave and give you what you want.
I distinctly remember at least half of this board bitching that we were going into the season without a proven vet, Hall coming off the injury and Carter being useless. They were emphatic, what is JD waiting to sign Cook….so there is that. Now the entire board seems to have determined he was useless then and now. Hmmm. Not defending Cook or JD one way or another, but many of the folks here that are very critical of JD, truth be told, were completely in bed with the move. Which also proves most fans couldn’t pick their noses but great in hindsight. IMO JD biggest screw up still remains the OL, and accepting an OC staff that is completely inept and has not put any one offensively in a position to perform to their capability. Not freaking one.
The Cook signing was obviously a bad one but it wasn’t like he was a prized free agent at the height of free agency. In retrospect we definitely should’ve used the money elsewhere but it was loose change laying around during camp. Dalton Risner would’ve made a lot more sense obviously but we probably could’ve added him on top of Cook.
I was wrong about the Cook signing during the summer. I thought he'd help our back field a lot. Boy was I wrong...... So I'll probably be wrong here, but I can see the Cowboy's picking him up for their playoff run.
I could see him going somewhere and still being successful. Like if he went to a team where the Oline can reliably open up a hole big enough for him to run through. But then again….I probably could do that too.
He is reportedly signing with the Ravens - good for him, but does it help the Ravens all that much when they have three RBs plus Lamar Jackson averaging more than 4 yards per carry?
Signed with the Ravens. First bet out of the way, he was definitely going somewhere. Anyone want to get a pool going on how well he does?
Cook was not a terrible signing - the RB room was decent this year. The only criticism is that he overpaid, but ... I don't think it is a big deal. OL was an egregious error, a fileable offense, most knew at the time, not hindsight. Not getting any good WRs after getting rid of Moore and Berrios, and failing on their replacements Lazard/Hardman. Boyle/Siemian as back-up QBs after Rodgers went down is also a joke. Lack of urgency before trade deadline to address these needs, especially OL, is inexcusable as well. Signing Cook was the least of JD's many problems this year.
He was a terrible signing. This guy sucks. He sucked in 2022 and sucked when he was with us. The writing was on the wall for how bad this guy was in 2022.For $3 million more they could have signed Hopkins, a legit WR.
That might have resulted in a win or two and an increase in offensive production. No way the Jets would stand for something like that.
We're about to find out whether it was Cook or the Jet's coaching staff: https://www.yahoo.com/sports/report...imore-ravens-ahead-of-playoffs-221004740.html What do you want to bet he rushes for more yards in this weekend's game than he did for 99.9% of his time here in NY. When he hits the 3 - 400 yd. mark, in the playoffs, the only thing we'll have to look at is our inept and useless o-line/coaching staff. IF he does, that would be sooooo "NY Jets" that it isn't even funny.
Agree with most of this, but Cook was absolutely a terrible signing. He was 28 years old and his YPC the previous 3 years had gone from 5, to 4.7, to 4.4. That's a clear decline coupled with being ancient by RB standards. It's been common knowledge league-wide for years that signing RBs with that profile is extremely unlikely to work out. It's inexplicable.
I'm already bracing myself for Dalvin Cook leading the Ravens in rushing and having a breakout performance in the Super Bowl against a Sam Darnold-led 49ers team.
