They also got a 7th round pick back from Detroit. The 6th is likely to be near the end of the round and the 7th is going to be at the beginning. So those picks are basically equivalent. They wouldn't get a better WR for the next 5 years with the 1st rounder, so it's like they traded up and took Williams in the first and gave up a 3rd. I don't think it's ridiculous at all.
I?m not saying, this is a bad trade for the Cowgirls, or that it wouldn?t make sense, but the Lions definitly raped them.
You go Detroit! Now , I'm really rootin for the Cowcocks to lose so that all those picks get higher in the chain...
I think a 2nd probably would have been fair compensation. To give up a first and a third is pretty steep. I think the Cowboys were desperate with the current season starting to unravel and TO not getting any younger. Owens is a freak of nature to be so productive at his age. I'd guess the Cowboys thought he couldn't be counted on for too many more seasons so they needed a young replacement. And Williams has the talent to be a #1 (if not always the motivation). Rookie WR do take time to develop so I understand the Cowboys wanting to get an experienced player. Williams can deliver right now. But the cost is high. I just hope he preforms as well as they want him to. And the Cowboys do have a lot of young players to get under long term contract. But in any case it's still a good deal for the rebuilding Lions.
