No one knows the exact figures, but the consensus seems to be the Yankees bid was 4th (around $30M), with the Mets and Rangers both ahead of them. $30M was a fair offer for him, but the Red Sox decided to bid an obscene number (Bill Madden on SNY is saying the Red Sox may have infact bid $51M.) It was expected the Yankees would win the bidding, and they submitted an offer fair enough to win.

Boras doesn't have a leg to stand on here, he can't threaten him to another team nor can he opt out for going back to Japan. They will get a deal done or else Boras will lose a client.

Not a new thing, though. The 1990's roster was, as the story goes, built by Stick Michael when George was given a "time out" by MLB.

But, when we hear about George meeting personally to negotiate with Sheffield, or commenting about coveting Randy Johnson, and when he publicly berates his management as he did in 2005, what else are we to think? That he's a hands-off owner? Perhaps not.

    Oh no you di'nt. . .

:roalise: :rolize: :realize: :rowlise: :roll ice:

If the numbers ever do come out, I've got the signature of your choice for all of Spring training that the Yankees were second behind the Red Sox.

And, Bill Madden just out-and-out STOLE junc's disqualification tag for being the BIGGEST Yankee homer. Maybe ever. It's getting so that these Yankee writers are publishing the first thing that echoes around the rim of their cereal bowl each morning. Has anyone but Bill Madden and his All-Bran heard that ridiculous rumor?

I'm not sure what you mean. Steinbrenner was banned for life in 1990, and the day-to-day player personnel duties were assumed by Michael. It's not a coincidence that after Steinbrenner's banning, they began to trade overpriced veterans for prospects, and rebuild the organization thru the draft and international free agency.

I'm just telling you what I heard, I'm not saying it's true or false. No one will know for a few more hours.

We're agreeing. I was just saying that the "Blame George - Credit Elsewhere" thing isn't new. If the Yankees make it back any time in the next five years, the story will be that it was because Cashman hid enough minor league talent from George to keep the organization breathing, and when Geroge gave him the wheel, the Yankees shook off the doldrums of the early 2000's.

another note: TV revenue/sales from Japan will be more than $60 in 3 years. He'll just about pay for himself with the Japanese market.

Agreed. It's almost laughable how far some will go to protect Cashman's image and vilify all things "Tampa".

Well 3rd, that is an interesting quote, but there is a big difference. Having a rotation paid that way counts against the luxury tax cap. This bid doesn't. It is very intriguing though.

Matsuzaka will pay off for himself, if he is as good as advertised. If he flops, that's going to hurt. Like I said earlier in this thread, it's insane if they are only pursuing him to get into the Japanese market. If they are pursuing him for talent, with the added benefit of revenue, then that makes perfect sense.

Cashman is cleaning up all of Tampa's mess now. George has been known to meet with players himself, and do everything but type out the contract himself when he wants someone. Cashman's deals, when solely his idea, never fail. What can you pin on him solely that was a negative move? Even though he seems to get blamed for Randy, it was George that wanted him. If I recall correctly, The Boss specifically told Cashman to go and get him.

GM, the reason the Yankees get kicked around if they do something like this is because it's so easy for people to hate the Yankees. When you win so many titles, you either have big fans, or big enemies. (This is not meant to be one of those "Haha, we have all the titles" rant. It's simply a look at why people hate the Yankees. It can't be so much about the money spending anymore, since the Yanks aren't the only ones doing it. The Yankees like the Pats. You either love them, or hate them. There is no indifference for the team.)

I am a homer b/c you say so, nothign to back up your claim except your silly post from yesterday but I am a homer:rolleyes:

If George wasn't suspended we never would have seen Bernie, Jeter, mariano as yanks throughout their careers. They would have been traded for Kirk Gibson, Andre Dawson, George Bell, etc...(all 3 were great in their own right but not in the 90s)

It was george who stepped in and started the FA frenzy again that ruined our latest dynasty.
