Both Epstein and Cashman have done a nice job over the last few years of bringing young arms into the system. If Beckett starts pitching like the Florida Beckett (although I think he'll be more in-between), Boston will be incredibly dangerous.
Boston will definitely make a lot of money from Japan off Matsuzaka, no doubt. But two things I saw that were interesting (I think it was the Boston Herald): the Red Sox have no room in Fenway for the Japanese advertising for a few years. I guess they could always dump sponsors that are already there, but because of the limitations that you mentioned, there doesn't seem to be room for the ads. Two, the Japanese TV rights might be consideribly less than what the Yankees or Mariners got, because it's still unknown if Japan will only be showing Matsuzaka's starts. I'm not positive on all this, we'll see what happens.

Heh, Sundayjack is a Sox fan. That's okay though, it's been a little too warm and fuzzy here today with the whole grouphug going on in the editorial thread and the Abyz 10k post thread.
Huh???? Johnny, you''re losing this thread. Badly. One more poor outing, and TGG may have to make an "organizational change."

And this call to the bullpen was brought to you by - RITALIN. Ritalin: when you just can't control those damn kids anymore. Nothing says, "I love you, you little bastard" like RITALIN.
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/baseball/mlb/11/13/boston.bidding/index.html Take it for what it's worth... SI says Red Sox did indeed have the highest bid. Thought to be a bid between $34 million and $38 million Dollars.
this whole thing is similar to the drafts. The player can either sign or wait a year and enter the next draft. Boras has almost as much leverage as an agent for a player drafted in the 1st round of the NFL draft. Personally, I wouldn't pursue him at all. It's just not worth it. You'd have to pay the team a crazy amount and then overpay the player.
