Most linemen get beat once or twice a game. Brick rarely gets dominated and then only by the truly elite. For the most part Geno has had plenty of time in the pocket last season.
Stat wise he was middle of the road No questing he is declining but who out there is better Also I think playing next to shitty guards doesn't help either
With something like $55m in cap space it's kind of hard to ask him to take a pay cut with a straight face. He should still be decent for another 1 or 2 years, so I think the proper move is to start training up someone who might be able to take over for him down the road. Good left tackles usually don't hit free agency, so we should be developing a new guy. I like 'Brick, and in the meantime I don't think he's a weakness of the team, even if he's no longer a strength of the team.
The jets have a solid guy at LT, he has been healthy and is actually not that expensive this year. I agree that the Jets must draft someone to take his place, as I can't see him being here after this year however this year he has to be on the team. 7/7/2010: Signed an eight-year, $73.6 million contract. The deal contains $34.8 million guaranteed, including a $1.6 million signing bonus, a first-year roster bonus of $3.1 million, and a second-year option bonus of $3.9 million. All but $5.3 million of the "guarantees," however, are guaranteed only for "skill" and not injury. An annual $750,000 workout bonus is available in years two through seven. The Jets paid Ferguson an additional $6.41 million "signing" bonus in the 2013 offseason. 2014-2015: $5.95 million (+ $1 million reporting bonus), 2016: $8.625 million (+ $1 million reporting bonus), 2017: $11.275 million (+ $1 million reporting bonus), 2018: Free Agent
I believe Da Brick has only missed one SNAP his career. He is dependable and durable and I think some of his supposed decline can be attributed to having a turnstile next to him for the past couple years. The Jets should extend him but to a smaller per year charge. Push some of that $11mil+ to later years and give him security. I think he's got above average play in him for another 5 years. An above average LT with no injury history is harder to find than most people think.
What? That's insane! That's the same stupid crap that Tanny did. Did you learn nothing from his mistakes? Doing that kind of stupid crap keeps older, bad players stuck on the roster because they become uncuttable. As it is now, they can cut him and have cap savings. His decline in play may be partially be explained by having poor LGs next to him, but when he is beaten by a pass rusher to the outside or whiffs on a block in the rushing attack, it has nothing to do with poor LG play. He should be given a clean slate with the new CS. If the Jets have a quality player beside him at LG and his play markedly improves, fine, but if not, the fact that he is durable shouldn't be the reason to continue overpaying him and having the offense struggle due to his poor play.
I'm willing to give him one more year, but 5, dang that's crazy, he'll be in a wheelchair in 5 years.
I was only comparing the way both of them will shoot up the draft boards. Peat should not be picked at 6. I don't think he is the best OT coming out this year.
Did the Clemmings you like play in the East-West Shrine Bowl game yesterday? If so, I want no part of him. He was awful and beaten like a drum.
Nope.... The Jets are going to have so much cap space this season after they cut Harvin and and CJ, and Brick is by better than any LT on the market. I could see them cutting Giacominni however.
Jets should trade him for a draft pick while they still can get some value. The team is in full rebuilding mode for the next 1-2 years and it makes no sense to hang on to him during that time.
If the best OT in the draft is there at #6 we should absolutely take him. Brick is declining, he used to be able to stop guys like Cameron Wake and DeMarcus Ware but I saw him get lit up against any elite pass rusher this year.
