Brick was rated somewhere around 19 at the beginning of the year in some of my old mags and not listed in others. McNeil was #1 in most of them. My facts are straight.
it was his first year and he was a little under weight no imagine him with some weight and he the weight room and just get over the rookie year.. id rather have a player who did so so and has room to grow then a player coming out hot from the start and amount to nothing in the end. dbrick is our future and a good future it looks like. then you not even sure about his back he could probably only have 4 years as a career do you want to put millions of dollars on that
Good post as always TBJ. The thing about Brick is...if he can just learn to protect against the bull rush better...he will develop into the an all pro LT. LT's are paid the big bucks to protect a QB's blindside...if a team can acquire a player capable of completely neutralizing speed rushers w/ equivalent athleticism...they stand to have a very successful offense and a healthy QB. All the talk about run blocking ability and such is just a bonus at LT. It's all about keeping the QB off his back. Brick will never been a great road grader type LT...he doesn't have to be. But,in time he will be able to shut down players like Dwight Freeney and Shawn Merriman w/ little to no help. That in itself is worth a top 5 selection. You add in his ability to pull and block downfield...and we're looking at a very good LT. The guy faced a brutal group of DE's for any OT to handle nevermind a rookie. For the most part he stood tall, and hell, was an all-rookie selection just like McNeill. Why can't people be happy w/ that alone?
JH..........where are you getting your info? DBrick & Kellen are also a "solid tackle and future QB". I've never noticed Kellen throwing the ball low....that's jibberish. You are suggesting we should have drafted Cutler at #4....that's insane. Cutler does have a strong arm....but played so-so for Denver late in season, he was adequate at best. McNeill has a cronic back problem, and probably was off the Jet's board.
Not to mention, many people questioned McNeill's work ethic and footwork last April. He was not the "flawless prospect" many here have maintained.
