Sure, he was 11-35 but alot of you don't realize that this guy played on VANDERBILT! They absolutely suck, and on top of it all, they are in the SEC, which is a great football conference. If this guy played on Rutgers, would they go undefeated or have a great program? Somehow I seriously doubt they would because Rutgers has sucked for a while. A team's record is a measure of how successful the entire team is, not any one individual on that team.

Cutler reminds me of Ryan Leaf because I believe he is destined to fail, or at the very least, have Kyle Boller "success". I am in no way comparing any physical attribute of Cutler to anyone else, I just don't feel he has the pedigree to be a winner in this league based on watching football my entire life. I may be wrong, but from what I see so far I think he's going to be this years workout warrior, and hence most overpaid player coming out in the draft.

Looking at the 4th pick overall, I'd just as soon trade down, but if I had to use the pick there are at least 10 guys I would use the pick on before Cutler.

Cutler is a reach at 4th overall, or even in the first round. The Jets won't do much worse waiting until the 2nd or 3rd to draft a QB.

I only relayed what Bayless said of Cutler. On page 1 here I made the comparison to Favre based on the drinking and rollicking.

I was for Ferguson with the 4th pick until the past week with all this combine talk. Now I'm undecided. If they were both on the board at 4 and the Jets kept that pick, I don't know who'd I'd take. I'd just hope the scouts did a proper job and get the better guy.

No doubt it goes both ways. There is just no reason to make comparisons, Didn't we learn our lesson with the Penny is Montana comparisons.

Kudos to you for at least responding to my challenge.. There have been so many people on this board that I have challenged about that comment that just ignored the question. I can't say I agree with your thinking but I do respect it though..

It is a hell of a lot easier to compare someone to a loser, than a star like Montana. When I compare Cutler to Leaf, I could also be comparing him to Browning Nagle, for example. The fact is, he could very well be this years hype demon, make a killing on doing nothing, and go down in infamy along with the rest of the failed NFL qbs.

Basically since the season ended my hope for this draft was either taking a QB at #4 if he was worth the pick or trading down. The way the draft is shaping up the Jets are probably going to have one of the "big 3" QB's remaining at #4. If Cutler is there and they take him, so be it. However if Young is there and they pass on him, especially for a questionable OL talent then I'd be rather upset. Trading up would also almost certainly equal disaster.

I've been thinking that Young would be gone before the 4th pick. I do think he is good and he is very marketable. New Orleans must draft either Leinart or Young.

That was my initial impression as well. However with the glow of the national championship game fading, this whole Wonderlic episode and Cutler impressing people at the Combine it's entirely possible that the Titans could draft Cutler at #3.

Thank you for the kind words.

Basically what it comes down to is this. If I were an NFL GM, on the most basic level, I would try to build a team with a culture of winning. I absolutely loved the Jonathan Vilma pick because if nothing else, the guy came from a winning program, and was a player coming out of the draft that understands only one thing: winning.

Out of the "big 3" of QBs coming out of this years draft, two of them fit that pedigree... Leinart and Young. They both come from winning programs, and to this point in their career, is all they really understand. They are definitely surrounded by better talent, but I think that will only serve to build better character traits... better leadership ability.

Assuming this article about Cutler isn't completely blown out of proportion, then what I see in Cutler is someone with a ton of amazing physical tools, and someone who understands losing. By throwing his teammates under the bus, it is apparent he cares about himself first. Call him the "Terrell Owens" of this years draft class. TO should be able to shatter football games with his raw talent, and even has a few times, but look what the ultimate result is in Philly. If the Jets continue to lose, I don't think having Cutler on the team will help. Like this article, he will continue to blame the people around him for losing and just keep raking in the paychecks.

I would bet you more than anything that out of all the players on the Jets, Vilma is probably in the top 3 of players who are miserable because the Jets are losing and will do just about anything to help them rebound. You want another example? Curtis Martin. Curtis is out of his prime, but he still is going to do what it takes to help the team win, financially, and on the football field. If the coach tells him he'll help the team win by taking a reduced role, he will do it.

I do not want Cutler on this team. He has plague written all over him. If I were the Jets, I'd sit at 4 and hope to hell that Bush, Leinart, or Young drops. If they get to 4 and those guys are gone, then I trade down to around 10 or so, where they can get a guy of equal value as at 4, and additional draft picks to help rebuild the offensive line.

Cutler is not going to help turn this ship around. He's going to collect a massive workout warrior paycheck, and he's going to run with it. The Jets meanwhile, and Jet fans in particular, will be left hanging.

I'm not going to write him off yet as a selfish guy. Sometimes you forget you're talking to millions of people and you say too much. It does make you wonder what this guy is really made of though...

This is all nonsense. Cutler's quote was made in defense of himself. Some reporter had asked Leinart what the difference between he and Cutler was. Leinart basically replied, "I just win." When a reporter informed Cutler of Leinart's quote he responded correctly by saying that Leinart had a lot more talent around him. Cutler said he meant no disrespect to the gusy on his team, but he was not surrounded by a bunch of All-Americans like Leinart had at USC, and that if he had a team like Leinart did that he would win too.

This is just the media taking a quote out of context and blowing it up out of proportion. I'm sure Cutler's teammates aren't taking offense to Cutler saying that he was not surrounded by All-Americans. They know that they're not half as good as their counterparts at USC. It's not news or a slap in the face to them.

Well he's got a point. I remember there being an uproar around here last year when Justin Miller got arrested for being drunk and disorderly at a party, and about how he was a thug and the Jets didn't want his "type" in the organization. But with Cutler its, "oh well, boys will be boys"

How many 1st round picks will come from USC this draft?
How many 1st day picks will come from USC?

How many 1st day picks will come from Vandy? One!

If Cutler would have been the QB at USC he might have a trophy too.

I know this is quite off-topic but that comment is basically what I was pointing out in another thread about another poster.
