Quick question...but I thought I remember reading that Cutler measured in at a little over 6'2 at the senior bowl?
I'm definitely on board with this move. Do this and trade down, but remain in top 10. A QB is only as good as those around him, OL being the most important.
Cutler is exactly 6'2 and7/8th"s. So, an eigth of an inch short of 6'3"..... that's how to read that number.... the first number is feet, the third number is inches, and the last number is 8th of an inch. So, he's 6'3", 223. For the Whitehurst freaks, he is 6042, 216 pounds. So, 6'4 and 1/4", according to the official senior bowl wiegh in.
unfortunately if you want Cutler you need to grab him at 4 other teams will also pull the trigger namely the Raiders or Lions he may not be worth a 4 but the qb position is not too deep
I appreciate that JI04, I really do, but did you ever entertain the idea that maybe, JUST MAYBE, my initial projection was much closer to Jay Cutler's ACTUAL PROJECTION {by most scouts} than the folks who were eroneously projecting Cutler 15-25 at the outset? Reason I ask, seems like each time I read a column that quotes an anonymous scout or GM in regards to JC's value, it's a lot closer to my own projection {from the outset} than some of the Guru's who had it wrong all along So you are basing {in part} your "reach thesis" on some early Guru projections {and Guru's are not scouts or GM's, the folks who determine the actual value}, but discounting the possibility that their projections were off ... and not mine Not to say I always have it right ... sometimes I do and sometimes I don't ... but maybe this was one of those times when I had it right? Just something to consider, my friend
Jay Cutler at 4 and some offensive players in the second and third round and we will be on the right track.
so you are going to go with Cutler as the opening day starter? because if Bollinger starts it wont matter who you drafted we will still suck
cutler wouldnt start year 1. maybe last 4 games they may throw him in. but of course there gonna need to sign a vet qb to play the kitna roll. if bollinger starts we will have the inside track for adrian peterson
Why do people keep on making this assumption? I wouldn't have Cutler on that field AT ALL until maybe the last two or three games. We can sign on a FA vet to play for a year...
Just for the record, that's what I've been saying all along ... for months ... especially that last part, could be a better pro than Leinart and Young That's my story and I'm sticking to it
Well yeah I knew he was 6'3 and no I never said that was bad size, I just felt like mentioning it I have nothing against Cutler but if Mangini really is sold on taking him (which I think is just mere speculation) then I want to trade down to take him. But not at #4.
If Mangini really does want him, than picking him at #9 (not 4)- I might be alright with that. Lions trade up and take DBrick and we take Cutler and maybe Lawson or Carpenter with the other pick. Well, Id certainly be happier than if we blow a top 5 pick on him. Still think its all speculation thpugh...
Everyone mentions trading down but we really can't because the Raiders are just as likely to grab him as we are. So trading down 1 spot doesn't really do us much. As far as him shooting up draft boards I am usually scared by that too. I hate workout warriors because they scare the hell out of me but Cutlers rise has been different. For one thing he was a VERY good QB to begin with. He produced on the field and led a Vandy team to respectability in a tough conference. Secondly he was already projected as a late 1st early second rounder. I think his rise has been more due to the fact that he was forgotten about this season. Everyone was caught up in the Leinart, Quinn, and Young show and Cutler was given basically no national attention. The senior bowl was just a chance for him to get some attention and for many scouts to confirm what they already knew about him. That his performance at Vandy was no fluke and that he has probably the best skills to suceed in the NFL as any QB in the draft. I've even heard some compare him to Kyle Boller. Boller does have some similarities (string arm, similar numbers, tough competition) but he came from the same offensive system that has produced Akili Smith, Joey Harrington, himself, and now Aaron Rodgers. There's a reason why all of those guys, with the exception of Rogers who hasn't gotten a chance yet, have failed miserably. There's no sure thing but the idea that drafting him 4th is too high I have to disagree with.
