If the people running Chicago thought Cutler was so bad, then why did they give him htat big contract last year? It;s like I said in January - the negative comments about Cutler are very much a refletion of buyer's remorse over that contract rather than an accurate assessment of his relative value as an NFL Qb. The stats say he's roughly at 15 among NFL Qb's. Since the Jets presently have perhaps the worst Qb in the NFL, Cutler would be a huge upgrade. And don't talk about Cutler's attitude as a deal breaker. Smith has an awful attitude.
Not sure too many people have come out against playing with Geno. Meanwhile, half the coaching staff and a bunch of players have. Laughable that you would try to compare the two.
The people that gave him that contract got their asses fired just like Idzik because they were idiots
That contract got the front office fired so I'd hardly use that as a barometer. Also, there's absolutely nothing suggesting the attitude problems of Geno and Cutler are in any way equivalent.
The FO got fired because the Bears sucked, which was a result of a number of factors. It was not the contract alone. The point was that it was supposedly the FORMER coaches who are saying bad things about him. Who are they? Lovie Smith? How did Tampa do with him? He took a 4-12 team and made his big contribution by losing two more games than the year before. Trestman got fired. Where is he now? McDaniels may be doing well for himself in NE, but he's still at a lower level than he was as HC in Denver. My point was that at the time they signed the contract no one was saying these mean things about Cutler.
I've seen you be very vocal in regards to the contact the Jets gave to Sanchez. Cutlers deal was significantly worse from a dead cap space and time commitment standpoint. As for what other people have done, the article doesn't specify who exactly said what, so hard to tell. Regarding the people you mentioned specifically, I'd wait a little while before coming to that conclusion. Plenty of coaches have fallen and then risen from the ashes. I know you like Cutler, I simply don't. His arm strength is his only positive trait in my opinion.
Dunno about the way part, but that's why it is logical for the Bears to pay down the amount in order to trade him.
First of all, Cutler is a much better QB than Sanchez. Second this is not about the contract that Cutler should have. he already has that contract. I am not sure what your point is. At this point I would pretty much take anybody over Smith. So that is something that I take into account when discussing any alternatives. There's absolutely nothing about Smith that I prefer over Cutler other than his contract. So if the right deal can be reached for Cutler, the Jets wold be better off with him. Still doubt Chicago is going to move him, though, ftr.
I like Cutler so I'm bias. His attitude kills me though. And that would not go over well in NY. But he gets blamed for everything in Chicago. With that said I wouldn't give up anything for him and I'd need atleast a 3rd rounder from the Bears. If nothing else he can makes throws that only like 10 QBs in the league can make. With a strong HC (something he's never had IMO) he could succeed.
I wouldn't bring in Cutler. I'm not a fan of Geno, but I'd rather him start next season than give up anything for Cutler.
pussies... like the great philosopher Herman Edwards once said "Put your name on it" They have enough problem with Cutler that they think they were fired because of him but they won't say who they are? That's clown shit
I wouldn't take Cutler over Smith. He is a locker room destroyer. If I were in Maccagnan / Bowles shoes, being brand new to the team, I wouldn't stake my reputation on someone like Cutler who has accomplished absolutely nothing over the course of a decently long career. The move doesn't have short term or long term value. There is no upside. There is a guy with a reputation for being a prick no one wants to work with, will impress a few people the first time he cranks one down the field, and then will frustrate everyone quickly with poor ball handling and a shit attitude. I'm in no way arguing who is better between Cutler and Geno; in my opinion, it doesn't matter because Geno is not the future of this team. In the short term, Geno is preferable because there's no financial commitment to him, nor do the Jets need to forfeit a draft pick for him.
Good post and I agree completely. I'm not as down on Cutler as many but I completely understand the new regime not wanting to tie themselves to that potential bomb. If you trade for Cutler you better have an established core of leaders on your team or be a respected veteran staff. The Jets certainly don't have the second and really don't have the first. Smart move to stay away. And that contract! Chicago isn't going to be able to trade him to anyone IMO. If they cut him he would certainly find many suitors but nobody wants to take that contract off their hands
We already had a guy who would sulk and hang his head when things weren't going his way, we don't need another. I want no part of Cutler on the Jets. Having the physical skills is worthless if you don't have the mental fortitude to go with it. If you need further clarification go ask the Browns how the physically talented Josh Gordon and Johny Football worked out for them.
NO Please let us never speak of this again. Jay Cutler is just awful, he would get eaten alive here. He would make the Tim Tebow move look genius. I will take Geno Smith any day over Cutler.
For once I can agree completely, it would be a disaster especially after just trading for Marshall who hates him.
