    Brooks Bollinger just called.

    He said to keep Brunell.

Exactly. Maybe if the lockout never happened and we had a regular offseason then you could convince me to give McElroy the #2 job, but putting a rookie who's only ever seen an NFL playbook for 1 month is insane. Especially considering that it costs us almost nothing to keep Brunell around.

If the worst happens and Sanchez misses time, I want a guy who's been there before to run the offense.

One guy who I hope we keep is Dan DePalma. He's caught my attention a few times on special teams, and you can never have enough good players on that unit. If it comes down to, say, Turner (who has potential as a receiver but adds nothing else) or DePalma (who probably won't ever be an impact player on offense but is already a very good special teamer,) then I'd keep DePalma.

theres no emergency qb rule anymore so it really doesnt matter who is the 2/3 between brunell and mcelroy

unless people want to free up another roster spot ... which, given how much sanchez has said brunell has helped him, doesnt make much sense

Ive been waiting for Pitoitua to step up and it seems like this is his year, I believe even Rex said so. I remember seeing him in preseasons past and wondering why we didnt see him in the regular season, I suppose he wasnt quite ready. I always have grouped him together in my mind with Pouha (two somoan guys I guess) and weve seen Pouha take the step up now its Ropati's turn.

Cimini's peerless analysis suggests that the Jets better cut all of the players who suck, and keep all of the players that don't suck. Otherwise, he feels, we're in for a tough year.

Last year the Jets were hoping that Piotoitua would be a big part of their rotation, but he tore his achilles in the preseason.

    Get well soon Mezz...

Courtney Smith was cut. I believe more cuts come tomorrow to get down to the 53 man roster. I'm not sure who I want to see cut, but sure as hell know Jennings is the odd man out at RB, probably will hit the PS.

Bollinger!!! I was trying to think of his name a week or so ago in a post. Anyway, your point is spot on, especially with Hunter still being a question mark and Moore recovering from surgery. If Sanchez goes down, the Jets will need a veteran QB who knows the system.

I'm not so sure that DePalma won't be able to make an impact on offense eventually. I could see him in a Welker-type role. He's fast, quick, elusive, has excellent hands, and is tough. Don't know how he is as a route runner, but I think he has as much, if not more potential than Turner as a WR.

I think everybody understands that if Mark Sanchez tears an ACL in week 5, Mark Brunell isn't going to step in and lead this team to the Super Bowl.

But let me paint this picture for you... it's week 15 vs. the Eagles. It's late in the fourth quarter. We're trying to run out the clock with a 3-point lead at Lincoln Financial when Sanchez takes a shot- not substantial, but he'll miss the series.

That's when you need a back-up quarterback with NFL experience. I don't care how smart or talented Greg McElroy is, I want someone who's seen it all before to call the plays and take the snaps in that situation.

    What he said.

If I wanted an entire season replacement I'd go with McElroy

If I wanted an important series replacement I'd go with Brunell

Bellore and Cumberland gotta be locks to make the team. Also, let Satale open up his pizza shop already.

Agreed on all three guys. Also Maybin should have a spot.

Yeah, I think Satele cost himself a job tonight.

With how Mauga and Bellore have performed this preseason, it was an uphill battle for Satele to begin with. His stinker tonight just punched his ticket back to the pizzeria.

Pretty sure Maybin made the team after tonight game. Not sure how much more Rex wanted to see, but I think Maybin gave it to him.

Matthias Berning is certainly making the most of his opportunities. Might be too little, too late, but he's made a strong case for the practice squad tonight.
