I've never had power issues. I built a $1500 rig but I use it like a $500 computer so I'm not too worried. Like I said, nothing is overclocked and there aren't many peripherals. I'm running two Radeon 4850's in xFire and only have 1 HDD. I think I'm cutting it pretty close.. yeah, but I'm not necessarily playing games on max settings all hours of the day. I did play SC2 for about a week or so on MAX and it ran flawlessly. BTW, I don't use this as a HTPC, if I did I'd probably go north of 900W.
I'm in the process of specing out my new music Workstation. I am seriously lookin @ the Bulldozer. Once some tests go up I'll make a decision. The only thing that bothers me is that the Bulldozer will be Dual Channel memory. There will be no Triple Channel but there will be a Quad Channel but that won't be around til 3Q and will be on the Server platform which is fine w/me.
No worries. I'm satisfied with my social life. Computers is a job/hobby so this jargon comes with the territory
I'm pleased to announce that the DreamMachine 10 has been built. Stressed with Prime95 and stable for 10hrs @ 4Ghz. I will post a pic of "Thor" presently.. I gotta say this though. So far, ripping DVD's has been a breeze. Alot faster than with my older rig. Not sure what to attribute it to. The SSD, The SATA6 HDD's, the 16GB RAM or the 64bit OS. In the time to post this thread, I've already ripped 2 DVD's and ripping a 3rd one now.
It's a combination of your Proc & SSD/HDD. Depending on if you are using a temp cache on them during the burn. Actually, you don't need to do that being that you have 16Gigs of ram that's enough to eliminate the write to disk option on the burn  Glad to hear it's all runnin. Can't wait for some scores and pix! Also, glad to see I ain't the only one w/Over masculinated names on my rigs
Gentlemen, I give you Thor1 Click on the image for a larger view.. Here's his credentials: Uploaded with ImageShack.us Please forgive as I was hoping for a size a bit more suitable for the nearsighted..
Cman, with a name like Thor for that bad mf, you should come out of retirement and swing a hammer on TGG. Great set up.
Do u mean PCI, or AGP? Because PCI-e is the most current technology. Nice build btw, that full tower looks beastly.
You think your PC is old... I'm posting this using a build from 2000, using 2nd generation hardware, running linux. It has an old school AGP slot, with couple of old PCI slots, and an ISA slot. I need a new computer..
There was also PCI-X which was PCI's 1st upgrade. Funny thing is that my Workstation, which I built 2000-2001 Is still kicking. When I built it, the prognosticators response was "you don't need all that power". Whenever you hear that, Don't listen. It's better to have a rig that you plan out for future upgrades. Because of how I wanted to build, my boy aka "Blue Demon" has been bangin trax and editing for 10 years. Unfortunately, it is finally time to retire him to the Home Network. I have since been editing on my laptop and while it's more than adequate, I really need a new worksation. Here are my original specs from 10 years ago: TYAN 2466n-4M 2x AMD 2400+MP 2x 1GB sticks of Samsung reg.mem 4x 200GB HDD (Western Digital IDE) Gainward AGP VideoCard (NVIDIA-Forgot the #) Vantec Heatsinks MOTU 2408mkIII (Studio Soundcard) Minus the Soundcard this was a $2000+ Rig back then. 1GB Sticks of ram and 200GB HDD's were cutting edge and expensive. The upgrades along the years were basically the OS, HDD's and a VideoCard.
Woo AGP! Lol i still have my old box in one of my closets with an AMD XP 2.8, 1.5gb ram, and a AGP Radeon 9800 PRO that i built when i was like 17. It was the shit back then. Windows 98 + Half-Life/Counter-Strike = Good ol' days!
A few days ago they announced a recall for Intel SanyBridge. This is big considering the Bulldozer is on the horizon. I basically am holding on to see what the Bulldozer will offer before committing to my build.
