Yards lost while attempting to pass= sack yardage. Do you attempt to read and understand or are you purposefully being obtuse? Either way you answer would actually be bad because it means I have wasted my time with you. Again, sack yardage is no more now than it ever was even though teams pass more these days.
Yeah, this is a waste of time. You don't answer direct questions and your knowledge of league history is very shaky.
It's all about himself cakes. He hates Strahan and the Giants so he's going to talk shit about Strahan no matter what. Even if it is really, really stupid, and it is, it doesn't matter he's going to stick with the same bullshit over and over. He doesn't really think Simeon Rice was better, he doesn't really think playing on one side makes that much difference, he doesn't really think yards lost is meaningless, he just personally hates Strahan and likes to argue and those are the counterpoints, as stupid as they are. You may have wasted your time with him, but know that at least one person appreciated it. I enjoyed your posts and how well thought out and researched they were.
That's YOUR narrative. I was talking about the FOOTBALL players. Not debatable. Strahan was a much better FOOTBALL player. _
he lost some advantages and picked up others. it all evens out but he wasn't dominant as a LDE. those guys are judged on their ability to get to the QB and Rice was the far superior player in that regard. what does that even tell us? who cares about yardage lost? you post about sack yardage lost and are talking about me wasting your time? seriously? I despise the Giants but I am always fair. LT is the best defensive player I have ever seen- what team did he play for? I said for years harry Carson should be a HOFer when he was getting snubbed- what team does he play for? I actually don't dislike Strahan, he's kind of entertaining in his TV roles but I judge on what I saw. he was a good player but vastly overrated. He led 2 of the biggest postseason chokes of all time, always disappeared in big games and big moments, finally broke through in that last season but that had more to do w/ a million great pass rushers around him as that team did the same thing w/o him a few years later. I hate seeing the Hall continually watered down. good for you, the 2 are viewed as pass rushers. One was much better than the other- the one that faced elite LTs and wasn't a failure as a pass rusher prior to moving to the left side to face RTs.
I understand what you are saying, I don't get how this proves anything. what exactly is it telling us? stop w/ the childish insults, it never helps your weak arguments.
How is "dense" an insult? Also, there was not anything childish about it. Go read your comment that prompted me to reply with that info, you snot-nosed poopy face.
you get insulted when ever someone doesn't agree w/ you and you hurl insults. it's what you do, you provided ridiculous info and pretend like it tells us something then hurl insults when someone questions you.
pass attempts against: NYG 1993-2007: 7,986 532.4 per year Rams 1961-1971 SD 1972-1973 Was 1974 5,367 383.4 per year difference of 2,619. these guys missed some games so the info isn't perfect but it gives a gauge. In essence Strahan had 2,619 more chances to sack the QB than Deacon Jones did. Unofficially Jones had 32 more sacks than Strahan in 25 less games and w/ over 2,000 less chances to sack the QB.
You have it wrong. I got annoyed because you did not respond to multiple points and questions. I didn't get insulted by anything here.
You completely missed the point and wasted your time. I wrote that there are more passing attempts and, therefore, theoretically more opportunities for a guy to get a sack. However, and this is what went over your head (or you chose to ignore it), sacks are harder to come by these days. Individual sacks were only recorded starting with 1982, but team sack data is official dating to the late 1940s (do not have exact year available off top of my head). When you look at the data, you can see that sacks are more rare on a percentage basis now than they were in 1970 or 1961 or 1955. This is not about Strahan. It is about the league. And enough with the Jones vs Strahan comparisons. Why even go there again? It is like comparing Jerry Rice to James Lofton or Art Monk or Andre Reed. Or like comparing Johnny Unitas to Jim Kelly or Joe Namath. (Immortal top level Hall of Famers vs lesser Hall of Famers is the point here.)
2,000+ more chances to get to the QB and I am sure it's more w/ other guys in those eras. Strahan was a good, not great, pass rusher but he made the Hall based on the bogus sack record and the false notion that he is top 5 all time in sacks and he did it against RTs rather than LTs.
Half the ends in the HOF "did it" against right tackles. I posted the nine LDEs in the Hall. Do you care to rank them? 2,000 more chances to get to the quarterback, you say? As has been noted by myself and another guy in this thread, there was a major rule change that has caused sacks to be hard to come by since 1978. It is a free country. You can choose to ignore this fact again or you can try to refute it using actual football research (good luck if you try, because you would be disputing a fact). EVERY defender has more opportunities to get sacks now based on sheer volume of passes. Well, mister, explain to me why sacks are occurring with much less frequency in this era? Respond with something sensible. If I have to hear about Regis Philbin in your rebuttal, then I will bow out.
and those guys dominated, Strahan did not. sacks haven't been hard to come by since 1978. how do you know the frequency when sacks weren't official prior to 1982? if you have those #s, sacks per pass attempt, please post them.
Again, individual numbers are not available pre-1982, but team figures are. I will put something together under the hope that you truly want to know. I cannot guarantee it gets posted tonight, though. I am not home now and I doubt I will have a lot of time after going home. Edit- I will not be able to post the info until Wednesday night at the earliest.
