I will be there next year (CM), less than a 2 hour drive. Everyone needs to visit the Hall of fame, it's an awesome experience. The Jets are due to play in the HOF game, last time 1992.
Radio guys are clowns man. Many knowledgeable media people, as well as hall of fame players, GM's, and coaches recognize he should be in now. Even Schein was outraged, and he doesn't exactly go out of his way to support the Jets. The Jets should clearly have reprentation on the vote. But more than reporters voting, there really should be ex players, GM's, and coaches on the committe to keep things real versus media centric. Curtis was one of the most complete backs to ever play the game. No RB with his body of work has missed the first ballot, including guys with lesser stats. And on top of the production, he was a leader, and embodied what this league is all about. He was in the same league as Faulk, and they both should have got in. I actually think that would be the case had Sabol had a separate category for Contributor, as the WR's essentially canceled each other out in the voting.
I'll likely go the year after, assuming Martin and Parcells get in. If the Jets get scheduled to play at same time Martin and Parcells get inducted, i think you'll see a decent NY turnout.
I'll have to decide what crew I'll take with me- wife and son or friend and father. I'll PM you soon with some questions about lodging. I have not yet been to Canton, but have gone to Cooperstown three times. The whole area around the Baseball Hall of Fame is great. You walk around the town and you'll see people selling baseball cards out of their garage. The stores all have baseball stuff in them. I have heard that Canton is not quite like that.
Not at all. I've been to Cooperstown, old GF went to Colgate. The Football HOF is right on Interstate 77. A very commerical area, lots of hotels, restaurants etc. Downtown Canton is kind of rundown, the area of the Hall of Fame (north of Downtown) is OK...just a lot of traffic.
BTW, anyone flying to Ohio for the HOF, I'd fly into Cleveland, not Akron/Canton. Newark has a lot of flights via Continental Airlines to Cleveland. Also, you need to see the R&R HOF. The drive from Cleveland to Canton without traffic is about 45 minutes.
