Yeah Brett Ratliff was a heck of a player too. Can't forget about Greg McElroy either but Matt Simms... Well he could go down as one of the best to ever play the game.

Here's the way the NFL works for 95% of all players: you get two or three years to make an impact. If you don't make that impact in that span of time you get cut and the team goes with a younger player who will get the same two to three years to prove he belongs.

Now and then a special teams player is so good that he can last six or seven seasons doing just that job and as an emergency fill-in when required. Even those guys get cut when they get to late prime. They're too expensive to keep around at that point due to vet minimums. Backup QB's can stick around forever if they have a bit of potential. There's always room at the inn for a competent backup QB.

What happened to McIntyre is pretty simple to explain in retrospect. He's not a young guy at 29. He doesn't have the growth potential of a 26 year old, which is where Trevor Reilly is. He was expensive on the cap compared to Reilly. He hadn't made a real impact as a Jet to date despite the 5.5 sacks he registered. It was time for them to go with a younger guy and see if they could get a starter out of the change.

Isn't Antonio Allen listed as a CB?

I like the approach.. OL Caleb S., WR Gates, LB McIntyre, QBs Boyd and Simms, and WR Hill were good cuts. Glad to see the jets are finally getting rid of guys who have been dead weight on the roster the last few years and giving the recent draft picks a chance. Lose the retreads.

He's a safety that's currently playing corner. Too soon to tell if he's permently moving there.

He has arm, patience and a pair of rather sizable balls. That's more than Sanchez had, and Jets gave him 4 seasons. No, I'm not saying he is NFL starter. He might never become one. He has basics though and Jets are not exactly famous for proper QB development. With right QB coach Simms might thrive.
The annoying part about your posts is that you give you opinions (often misinformed) as absolute facts. Simms will never be NFL QB, hell freezes over? You cannot be 100% sure that Simms never starts and if starts, fails. There are examples of no-name guys who became a force in the league.

It's my opinion lol I can base my opinion on whatever the fuck I want, which makes it an opinion.

My opinion: Simms will never be a starting QB. I'll base that opinion on what I've seen out of him in his Nfl career, not some fantasy bullshit

And while there are "examples of no-name guys who became a force in the league" there are five thousand examples of no-name guys who remained no-name guys. Odds are heavily against him.

I don't like the idea of going into the season with a 2nd year, still unproven QB, plus an injury-prone vet. My comment re FO mistake was about QB depth, not about Simms' potential.
That said, it's a bubble year anyway, Jets are not competing for SB so having 3rd QB is not critical.

If you're implying that I'm basing my argument in Simms' heritage, quote one post where I mentioned his dad, in any way -- good, bad or neutral.

That comment had nothing at all to do with you or your comment. I didn't even know you made a comment about his father.

Do you bother reading posts you're replying to beyond first 2 sentences? Don't bother answering that, I know you don't.

Let me spell it out for you.
You can have any opinion you want.
You can base it on whatever shit you want (which you often do).
You stating your opinion as fact is stupid and annoying.
    ... Got the difference?

Odds? Now you're talking about odds? There are no odds in your world - just absolutes: Simms is crap, the hell will freeze over.
That's my point! The ODDS are Simms will not amount to much. But it's NOT absolute truth, like you're making it sound.

That's because I never mentioned his father.

Simms will be on the PS. There is no point in keeping him or any other 3rd QB on the 53 when he will never be activated and can do the exact same thing on the PS. If something were to happen to Geno we could sign Simms/Boyd/whoever to the 53 man. It's the smart way of doing it.

    Hell will freeze over brotha.

You can go snoodle with your boy Simms when that happens. Until then, shut the fuck up and watch Simms never play a down as a starting QB

Nothing worth wasting my time in response to your dumbass.

I'm not the one who sees Simms as possibly the next greatest thing.

He has such a great arm!
He throws such a pretty ball!
His balls?! I've never seen ones bigger than his!

Matt Simms is the next Peyton Manning. Count on it

I think Simms might be snatched by Rams as a backup. But you're right, if both Geno and Vick are out, it pretty much won't matter whom Idzik will get to start. I guess I see some potential in kid and would be curious to see what he could develop into.
