I don't know how a 33 year old CB who is on the decline and injury prone is going to help a team that needs pass rush over a stop gap #2 across from Revis.

Wilson is an outside corner, not a nickel CB. His job is to play the outside WR. He also needs to learn on the job, like every other corner in the NFL. I hate that "he couldn't beat out coleman" bullshit. His skillset does not suit playing on the inside. He's not going to sit and then magically play well because everyone didn't like his rookie year because it didn't match their spoiled expectations of 1st rounders kicking ass immediately since Tanny has been the GM (Gholston excluded). Its time for him to start.

This team can handle a 2nd year CB as the #2 if they get a fucking pass rush. This team had lito sheppard at corner and got to the AFCCG.

Where the fuck do you think he's going to get any kind of deal BEFORE free agency? He doesn't need to make a choice between a guaranteed deal or going broke this season. It's not in his hands. The Jets can't sign him to an extension under the 30% rules and give him 5 or 6 million a year without fronting him about 75% of the contract.

Yeah, but we don't have a good pass rush, we don't realistically have the ability to sign a pass rusher, and we likely won't get a pass rusher who can contribute this year where we are drafting, not to mention we don't have a 2nd round pick. And saying Wilson is fine to start over a stopgap like Bailey because we need a pass rusher doesn't make much sense either. How would Champ Bailey help the Jets next year? Because he's a lot better than Kyle Wilson.

So throwing a 2nd year player who honestly showed nothing this year into the mix is a huge gamble. Saying he couldn't beat out Coleman isn't bullshit, it's the truth. All we heard from Rex was how he's ideally suited to play in the nickel role, and he failed miserably, and then was replaced by Coleman, who sucks. Playing opposite Revis next year is an open invitation for offenses to attack him repeatedly 1 on 1 on the outside. Saying a guy like Champ Bailey wouldn't help as a stop gap option because he's 33 is just silly. Is he as dominant as he once was? No. Is he still a top 5 corner or so in the NFL? Absolutely. He had a very, very good year this year. And saying he is injury prone isn't true either. He has missed 9 games over the past 5 years, 7 of which came in 2008 alone.

Would I love for Aso to be here? Obviously, that would be great. Would Champ Bailey be an awesome stop gap for a year or 2 while Wilson has a chance to get better and hopefully contribute as the 3rd corner? Definitely. Would re-signing Cromartie be great? Yes, for sure, and I hope this report isn't true and that the Jets do everything they can to bring him back. But if Rex decides Wilson is ready to be the starting corner, I would be on board for that too because I 100% trust these coaches.. but there is no reason for us fans to be fully confident in Wilson after he had such a miserable rookie year.

The NFL Network reported yesterday that the Jets are likely to not re-sign free agent cornerback Antonio Cromartie.

    This is not entirely true.

The Jets, according to team sources, have not definitively decided to cut ties with Cromartie, one of several key free agents on their roster that decisions need to be made on. Cromartie, though, is not the top priority to sign.

As multiple outlets, including The Post, have reported since the end of the season, receiver Santonio Holmes is the team's top priority to re-sign. That's because they consider him the most dangerous offensive playmaker on the team.

The Jets would like to re-sign fellow receivers Braylon Edwards and Brad Smith as well as Cromartie, but they know that's not likely realistic.

There has been speculation about Cromarrtie's status with the team since the end of the season. His performance on the field, while mostly solid, was spotty at times.

He upset some people in the Jets organization when he called Patriots quarterback Tom Brady an unprintable name before the teams' playoff showdown. He cursed out the NFL Players Association over the potential lockout, and he got into a Twitter war of words with Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck and verbally threatening him.

When Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum was asked several days after the season about Cromartie's performance, his praise was lukewarm at best.

"By in large he had a good year for us on the field," Tannenbaum said. "It wasn't perfect, but he did everything we asked of him and he got better. Based on his entire body of work he is a guy we'd like to keep."

There has been speculation about the Jets making a run at Raiders cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, considered along with Darrelle Revis among the best in the league.

There have been reports that Asomugha wants to leave Oakland and he has even talked about wanting to team up with Revis. The pricetag for that, however, would seem unrealistic.

Wilson was drafted to be a nickel corner is 2010. The Jets have said this a zillion times.

That is great news if correct. Not that I don't want Cro back but out of cro, Edwards and Holmes I want Edwards and Holmes. I doubt we'd be able to keep all 3 so if one has to go I'm happy it's cro.

I think the Jets may of 'leaked' this to scare Cromartie. He might of gotten a taste of winning, and enjoys being with the Jets, but was possibly asking for too much $. There are obviously a few teams out there that are turned off by Cromartie...so this could be a way to scare our favorite semen bearer into hanging around for less $.

Meh. He can't be signed right now by the Jets because of the 30% rule so he'll definitely hit FA. Someone will offer him a good deal.

If they wanted to "scare him", this wouldn't be the right time to do it.

He did an ok job for us this year but it wasn't a good trade giving up a 2nd rd pick for him. I hope this news is true and if so I'm glad that they aren't leeting one bad move affect the future, many teams would do all they could to re-sign a guy they gave up a 2nd rd pick for so they don't look stupid. I love this regime, they don't make many mistakes but when they do they learn from it and they don't make it worse.

As would I. Plus, we used a 1st round draft pick on a CB who should be ready to take on the #2 spot with a full offseason (hopefully). We can bring in a veteran to back him up or if he's not ready to be put into the starting lineup.

I'm sure if Cro is gone we'll look to pick up a vet corner but hopefully that is just for depth and Kyle is ready to go. I have high hopes for Kyle in year 2.

I have hopes, but I'm not sure how high they are. My expectations are going to be low. I just hope that he is ready to go next year and that the vet we sign will be for depth only and will not be needed to jump in and start.

I like him coming out, I was happy we drafted him and I think he will be a good corner for us.

Not every player makes an immediate impact and he certainly got better as the year progressed. I'm nto confident today but w/ his experience as a rookie and w/ a full offseason I expect(hope) he'll be ready to go.

What do you mean no doubt? I am still waiting for a single Cro Hater to name one, just one, #2 cb in the league whos is better than him.

How do I rate him? I rate him the best #2 cb in the league. Is that overrating him? I think not.

His desires for money and his so called baggage, which last I checked do not mean he can't play football, it's not like they make him carry around a ten pound weight in each of his shoes, imo cancel each other out.

    And the CS loves him.

He'll be back at the right price, all the haters here aside.

but yeah 'based on what' ? we have not seen anything yet, but im a believer in da kid.

Tramon Williams or Charles Woodson(whoever they consider #2)? Does this work?

It's not about who the best 31 Corner is, we spent a 2nd round pick on the guy- he was expected to perfrom better than a typical #2 corner. he was supposed to be 1A, he was ok this year. He was not worth what we paid for him.

Cool one of your #2 corners is last years DPOY and a #1 corner. WTF?

He wasn't worth the 2nd round pick because they didn't bother to re-sign him when they made the trade. I wanted the re-sign done at that time, but it never happened. A second round pick is too much for a one year rental of pretty much any player unless it results in a superbowl.

They wanted Cromartie to beat Indy and NE in the playoffs. They did. It wasn't our DB's fault that Mendenhall went beast mode in the first half and no one could tackle him.
