My opinion regarding athletes is that all they do drugs, just that most go out of their way to pass their piss test(s) which they should. So the players that get caught do deserve to get suspended for being stupid and negligent for not putting the time/effort into finding a way to pass their drug test.
I got slapped as a kid if I deserved it. There's a huge difference between child abuse and slapping a kid to discipline them. It's a shame we've turned into mamby pamby land.
I got slapped too, sometimes even had the wooden spoon broken out just as a scare tactic though. Usually my older brother and I got in trouble together when we were real young and my Dad would take my bro and my Mother would take me into different rooms. I would talk my Mom out of it as we listened to my brother yelp. My Dad scared the shit out of me and he often chased me around and I would lock myself in my room. I hate parenting "rules" today, if I said half the shit I hear some kids say to their parents my father would've stapled my mouth shut.
My parents used to hit me, I think I'm a better person because of it. If my dad could he would still hit me but I outweigh him by a good 30 lbs these days, he probably thinks it'd be ineffective lol.
I think its a little silly to defend the parenting prowess of a guy who has sired so many that he can't even name all of them, is raising none of them, and has to get an advance on his salary to pay for their maintenance. Yeah, I also got the wooden spoon
today they have "time out", when i grew up we had "lights out" if you screwed up. you'd get your lights knocked out and you learned, and everything was fine.
No. Slapping on the fanny is one thing. Slapping in the face is quite another, and totally unacceptable imo. When very young is was swatted/slapped in the seat of the pants. When I got a little older, I was spanked with a belt or switch, and in school was paddled. That is acceptable to me, and even desirable, but I don't think one can take a cookie cutter approach to all children. Some things work better with some kids than others. I do agree that parenting and discipline today is a complete and utter joke. The kids rule the roost. Corporal punishment should be brought back, but it probably won't be.
Er, the law. In case you haven't noticed, it's illegal. It's not just the drugs themselves. It's the other crime they breed.
i got in suspended in school for fighting, and failed a class on the same day. i came home, and got hit across the mouth. no hard feelings i deserved it. btw: i retook the class, and passed with a B+. seems like it worked out well for me.
When I fucked up, I got my ass kicked. Sometimes the hand, sometimes the belt, sometimes a switch - that I had to go cut myself mind you. I didn't grow up fucked up..... I haven't murdered anyone..... I don't hate my parents...... I've never been in therapy in my life.....I did play football and kick the shit out of people though....and I loved every minute of it.....in case that counts.... My kids got their ass kicked when they fucked up too.... They didn't grow up fucked up..... They haven't murdered anyone..... They don't hate their parents......at least that's what they tell me..... They've never been in therapy in their life.....My son did play football and kick the shit out of people though....and I loved every minute of it.....OK, so that may be a pattern there.......
There's a difference between a disciplined household that doesn't believe in physical punishment and a mamby pamby land of no discipline. We had the former. I have no problem with households that exercise physical discipline, especially if a parent isn't able to discipline any other way. I'd much rather see mild physical punishment than a kid who is out of control. That's why I made the point that it sure looks like this wasn't a big deal given that the woman didn't see a need to report the abuse at the time it occurred. She waited until it was profitable to bring it up.
So not committing murder is how your judge your children growing up and navigating the adult world? Any history of touching or sexy tickling?
Iggy - I didn't mean for that comment to sound like I was calling out you and your family. It does sound that way but it wasn't my intent.
I didnt take offense; it really didn't come across that way at all. I was just saying there's a middle ground, which I prefer. The only things I can't abide by are actual abuse and zero discipline. I agree the latter is a huge problem.
I got hit when I truly deserved it, and it was only one smack to the head. That's all it took to put me right back in line.
