They would have been better off not having a returner. At least we would have gotten the ball. I wish Cro was not an option for returning any kind of kicks - he's just way too liable to completely fuck it up.
you both offer up these options. Both of you know damn well ou would be furious if the Jets didnt have anybody back to return it, or blew a TO on a fuckingpunt return. At some point you have to trust your guys to make a play. As for the purdham point, Cro was the nearest guy (since he was coming off the field) so they just sent him back. dunno who they would have sent back given the option (cro vs. Mcknight)
Bingo. Some of you can't let the truth get in the way of a thread. They had Cromartie returning it cause Jimmy was hurt.
Cro did have a nice return against the Colts last year in the playoffs that was key for us. With that said, he obviously avoids contact, he holds on most plays, and it just seems like he doesn't give a shit. He's tough to root for, and I hope he is not here next year.
cromartie fucked up sure but if he handles the ball cleanly he has the best chance too take it to the house its easy to say after the play cromartie shouldnt have been back there
I could have sworn the day we drafted Revis they talked about his ability to field punts at PITT. I've never seen the guy back there ----- ever. If this doesnt grab the CS by the throat to tell them dont ever put Cro back there ever again, I dont what else could.
Fair enough, I was just venting my frustration with the guy. I'm just not much of a Cro fan in general and I wish we had someone else to fill that role. Given the situation I understand the decision, I just hope they come up with a different option going forward.
he has had an incredible amount of trouble fielding NFL punts. as for Revis, you do NOT want an all universe player blowing out a knee on a PR. its not worth it. The only way I risk him back there is if he is Devin Hester as a return man. Which we won't ever know, because he'll never get a chance. Thus, I'm never putting him back there unless its a complete emergency (like one return last year) and we have no other choice.
I'm still trying to figure out why Kyle Wilson isn't getting more reps at PR in practice. He did a great job returning punts at Boise State. Hell, Revis had a great career as a punt returner at Pittsburgh.
Maybe we should just not put a returner back there to field the punt. Just rush an extra man and try to block the punt. Then at least we're guaranteed to maintain freaking possession.
Just incredibl;y stupid, why do they insist on trying to put anyone but Leonhard back there? Kerley and leonhard should be the only 2 returning punts unless they are both out. The McKnight fumble basically cost us the game 2 weeks ago and the Cro fumble nearly cost us the game yesterday. Leonhard never drops punts and he's a good returner!
JL had the wind knocked out of him, so the coaching staff sent Cro in for that one play. Isn't this his second fumble on a return play this year?
The other option was Holmes, but I believe he did something stupid on a return the last chance he got. They probably should have sent someone a little more reliable than Cromartie out there and tell them not to return it, just fair catch it. I am just not sure who that someone would be.
