Great article. Thank god we have manish metha covering the jets for the DN now. Can you imagine Cimini doing a piece like this?

I agree, for all of his writing ability, Cimini seemed like he would rather just make up quotes from phantom sources to get people to read his stuff rather than actually think about writing something fans would like to read. He is a typical lazy alarmist NYC sports writer. He is the perfect fit for ESPN NY.

i wouldn't mind that idea but i don't think it would go over very well if he got something before revis.

I agree, but you're talking about a much smaller contract. I'm sure the Jets could reason that with Revis/agent while they're also working on him (as reported). Maybe it would be best if they did Revis first if they're really doing his deal this offseason.

yeah if this is on the table for the jets they would need to get revis his deal first.

I don't think Cromartie is just another Lito. Lito's past his prime and Cro actually played pretty well last season. At this point Lito isn't anything more than a nickel while Cro can still be one of the better corners in the league.

Wow what a great article thanks. I had some question marks about Cromartie as well. A few weeks ago I went back and looked at that AFC playoff game against San Diego because I heard he pulled up on tackling shonn greene on that long TD run. I slow mo'd it over and over again. Sure enough, in one replay angle you can see Cro running towards Green with a clear shot - instead he pulls up and then turns to chase him upfield.

What Pettine says makes complete sense and I'm hoping they can also inspire Cro to be physical to tackle as well.

As everyone said, very good analysis and writing in this article. Looking forward to more.

like i said in the revis/$20m post, tanny grabing wilson may have more to do with the revis situation than crom.

that's why revis wants his deal done now, b4 crom and wilson have a solid year with the jets. that just takes a lot of wind out of revis' sails.

say revis, crom, wilson pan out as the best DB trio in the history of the nfl. there will be a lot of hurt feelings if revis gets $17-$18m/yr while crom/wilson get $2-$3m/yr.

    this works:

    revis $12m
    crom $8m
wilson $4m (i know wilson is a rookie)

Asomugha is getting $15 mil per year so I would guess that Revis would want at least that much.

Asomugahs deal was complicated and short I believe. Any deal with Revis should lock him up for much of the rest of his career.

I expect Cromartie to thrive in our defense and have a HUGE season. I also expect us to not be able to sign him with so many others needing new contracts.

Saying that they are upgrades to Lito and Kerry are actually hardly insults. It could easily mean they don't fit the scheme nearly as well, rather than the cheap shot you are assuming it was...

If it was a jab and if they are so soft that it bothers them, maybe they shouldn't be football players. Instead, they should take up ballet, or some shit like ice skating.

Some may think I'm crazy but if Cro has a big year, I'd rather have Cromartie then Edwards, Holmes, and yes, even David Harris. Cromartie's skill set is extremely rare versus a playmaking ILB. Not saying it will come down to that or the FO will say hmm we can't keep both, but Cromartie is the most gifted athlete on our team. You can find a David Harris in the draft but there wasn't a single Cromartie caliber CB in this past draft. 6'2" CBs with those ball hawk skills and that type of speed, acceleration, agility, and jumping ability don't grow on trees.

Hypothetically speaking if everyone has a good year, Cromartie would be the 4th guy I lock up after Revis, Brick, and Mangold. I doubt Kyle Wilson will ever reach the level of play Cromartie demonstrated in 2007. Not saying it isn't possible but Cromartie can make some plays Revis can't even make because of his size and athleticism. He's a freak of nature.

Cromartie also has a motherload of child support payments to make. He's going to play his ass off this year.

We gave up a premium draft pick (forgot the terms but I remember it being pretty likely it'll turn into a 2nd rounder) for Cro...if he plays well I'm sure Tanny will find a way to re-sign him.
