I'm a huge craft brew guy. Only domestic breweries for me. IPAs and Barleywines at this point only. Started with porters and stouts and graduated to strong IPAs and I have never looked back. I was actually at Stone just the other day, its about twenty minutes from the house I stay at here in San Diego. On to the beer; if you like the Ruination, take a step up to the best IPA in that same West Coast style as the Ruination but BETTER BIG TIME! Grab a Green Flash West Coast IPA. Hands down-the best IPA EVER. Go for a Racer 5 from Bear Republic, also that same style of IPA. Not as floral as the Green Flash but very, very tasty. Wipe Out IPA from Port Brewing, ala Pizza Port for those here in SanD is very yummy on tap and almost as fresh in the bottle. On the East coast, I go for Hop Devils from Victory as well as Hop Wallops from the same Pa Brewery. 90 Minute IPAs are the only beer I'll drink from Dogfish Head. The 60 minute is lacking and I'm just not into any of their other beers. During the winter time, I drink Sierra Nevada Celebration Ales but I buy them around Thanksgiving and put them in my basement. I don't drink them till around New Years when they're just right. As for barleywines in no particular order-Bigfoots from Sierra (again, I let them sit about a month or more from their first delivery date to the packie...), Victory Old Horizontal, Lagunitas Old Gnarleywine, Coronado Brewing Company-Old Scallywag is 14%. If you can find it on the West Coast- Alpine Brewing Company "Great" is 15% ABV and is awesome. Tastes like butterSCOTCH. I could go on for days and days.
God I love that stuff. Unfortunately the only place I've ever been able to find it is at Firewaters in the Trop in Atlantic City. I've gone to pretty much every liqour store in my town searching for it, or asking if they can even get it, and so far no luck. Not to mention any other liqour store I go into away from home, I check their specialty beers/whatever you wanna call it section, just for the slim chance they actually have it.

You drink good beer. I approve of almost every beer you listed. Green Flash is the shiz. New Yorkers: drink Six Point and Southern Tier. Can't go wrong. I've been really digging Weihenstephan lately. Being German I love all the Dunkels and Hefes. Good shit. Fucking love Aventinus, but that shit gets me too fucked sometimes. lol. I don't want to rain on anyone's parade, but I think Dogfish Head is overrated and overpriced. Stick with the 60 minute IPA. I think it's good to drink on tap, but way overpriced in the stores. The Lagunitas and Founders IPAs are both very good. Been loving Abita since I went to NO, and the Goose Island ever since we went to Chicago.
How is the Southern Tier IPA in a bottle? They have it in Mass at my packie but not on draft anywhere. I would try it if someone gave it a thumbs up.. I forgot to mention SIMCOE IPA from Weyerbacher. In 4 packs only, well worth it.
IPA is a fantastic type of beer. It's pretty hard to find one that's not good. Even the Brooklyn is good. I cannot emphasize how good Green Flash is. Here on Long Island there are a couple of bars that have it on tap, and it's always good. Their hop head is the fucking bomb. 6 something percent alcohol too.
Like I said, at this point in my beer drinking career, I only drink IPAs and barley wines. Once in a while a good Milk Stout at a local brewery. Only domestic IPAs, no offense to those across the pond but I cannot stand any European brew other than Guinness...
yes. for an American beer it's definitely above average. Try the Abita Old Restoration Ale. Something tells me you would like it.
I used to really dig Sammy Smith, especially the Oatmeal Stout and the Taddy Porter, but I drank it so much, I got sick of it. I know it ain't IPA, you can't go wrong with German beer.
I'll try it if I find it. I do not like the Turbo Dog or the Purple Haze at all. Had them in NO too but couldn't get into them. One night I saw Galactic down there and I did drink a shitload of Purple Haze because it was the best beer there but.....
For someone who has lived in the Southern Tier for most of the last 4+ years, it's kind of embarrassing that I've never had Southern Tier. I do like Ithaca Brewery though. The difference is that all weed is "microbrew." There is no real weed equivalent of Coors Light. There is no overprocessed, mass-market pot.
