Not really. To make that argument you have to ingore... Actually, the simple fact is, Brookings saying anything about a coach whose units have outperformed him his entire career, is ludicrous...but..whatever...
Ryan has accomplished what he set out to do. That is, change the mindset of the New York Jet organization from meek and mild into a more New York State of mind. That would be fck U and the horse you rode in on. Yeah, the Jets haven't won shit since '69 but you have to instill confidence in your team's pysche. You have to find the way to motivate players and Ryan is a master at doing that. He's instilling pride, confidence and swagger into a team that was vanilla wrapped in beige under Mangina. Frankly, who gives a fck what Brookings thinks. Who cares what Father Dungy doesn't care for. Neither one of them gives a shit about the Jets and nobody associated with or rooting for this team should give a fck about either guy's opinion. Father Dungy is a uber Christian and those folks tend to be judgemental as if its a God given right nevermind that little blurb that says: "judge not, and ye shall not be judged.." Somebody should tell Dungy to mind his fckn business, stop being so damned preachy and pay attention to his own personal life. Brookings? Probably pissed because America's team isn't on the front page anymore since Jessica stopped riding Romo's robo. Hell, the Cowboys are even behind Diva Farve when it comes to being relevant. One thing I do agree on and that is, win and then talk all the shit you want. It does appear sometimes that Ryan has it ass backwards. There's alot on the line in 2010 for the New York Jets. I just hope they're up to the challenge that their coach handed them.
All the hate is awesome. So far we've had Pats, Fins, Giants, and Cowboys players and Tony Dungy take shots. It'll make this season that much more fun.
So coaching the Dline on a SB winning team that OBTW had a dominant defense isn't fulfilling but being a rookie who makes no impact on the team you play for making a run at the SB does. You make it sound like Ryan was a ballboy and Brooking was an all-pro in the seasons in question. You analogy to Millen doesn't work either because they are completely different jobs. Millen switching careers from player to executive carries no weight to your argument while Mike T going from a front office executive to GM is all within the same realm.
Typical Hobbes nonsense. Brooking is a player. Rex Ryan has never outperformed him in his job as a player. What other PLAYERS have done relative to Brooking while Ryan was a coach is completely irrelevant. The reality is, you can't really compare the two. They're apples and oranges. That was absolutely ridiculous. A man who fought for Mike Vick to be given another chance after abusing living creatures thinks Ryan should be shut out of the league for swearing? Regardless of your opinion on what Vick did (and I don't really care), it's certainly FAR worse than Ryan dropping some f-bombs during a football training camp.
Are you dizzy from arguing with Hobbes? It's been known to happen. I'm saying Father Dungy should mind his business regarding Ryan. Who said anything about Father Dungy and Vick? The two situations aren't even apples and oranges here.. Dude, inhale every now and then. Don't let Hobbes send you over the edge..
Pastor Dungy missed that one.. I'm sure he really did mean to as he's the self appointed NFL moral compass..
I was agreeing with you. I meant that Dungy calling Ryan out was ridiculous, not your comment. Regarding Vick I was just saying I don't understand how someone can fight for Vick to be reinstated and then turn around and say that he wouldn't hire a coach because he swears. It's ridiculous and hypocritical.
This is what we get. Rex runs his mouth and people don't like it. Oh well. Beat us on the field if you don't like it.
that's not the issue, its after rex loses ... he still talks! haha but that's who he is and I would like him as my coach for that reason although at times I think he goes a little far
I don't know why people are getting upset with what Rex says during Hard Knocks. It's not like he's saying this shit during his press conferences. Coaches are supposed to say this stuff in the locker room. What is he supposed to say? "We're a decent team, a lot of teams will be us if they play their best"
To paraphrase Katt Williams, Let haters hate, thats their MFing Job. I'd rather look at the Cman's avatar than argue about whos feelings are hurt because the Jets aren't scared of them.
This is just what Ryan asked for.... a target on our backs. So be it. Ryan has brought a swagger to this team, a swagger we haven't had since the Namath days. Bring it on, baby. Can't wait for the games to start. Championship teams almost always have a swagger. The yankees, the 86 Mets, the 69 Jets... the Ditka Bears, the LT Giants, I could list a whole lot more. Winning starts with attitude and confidence. That pisses a lot of people off. Just what Rex asked for. Play like a Jet.
Good post. It could maybe be interesting to debate the most, in the parlance of our times, swaggerlicious teams. The '86 Mets, '85 Bears, and '92-'93 Cowboys did a lot of talking and backed it up. I would list those three outfits as being the pinnacle in the talking and backing it up department. I think the '34 Cardinals deserve mention also.
Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one. Brooking has one as well. What gets me is that he begins by stating he is not fond of all the chatter and then he chats away. You make comments like his to get in the papers. Nothing more. You could always say "no comment". It's also fun to hear that the Jets are on everybody's mind. Means the opposition is not focusing on what they are supposed to be.
