Added a couple countries since this list. Spain Germany France Lithuania Greece I'm in Greece, Rhodes to be exact, right now waiting for my mezes and gyros enjoying my beer
My twin boys are starting college this year and we are saying Hello to Empty Nest life. I proposed my wife to do a crazy trip this November to celebrate our 23rd year anniversary. My proposal is this. She says hell no. I can't afford business class but if I could i would do it in a heart beat. Here is the plan. Tell me if this is crazy to do in 9 days in November. New York to Sydney (3 nights in Sydney) Sydney to Seoul(South Korea) (2 nights in Seoul) Seoul to Tokyo (2 nights in Tokyo) Tokyo to New York Economy class, whole trip costs $1900 per person in airfare in November. Business class costs $7400 per person
No Lotto boss. My only luxury in this world is traveling. I am driving a 12 year old Honda at 150K miles. I don’t eat outside much. I don’t have expensive hobbies. Traveling is my only luxury in life so I hunt for flight deals and travel when I can. I am typing this from Zurich. On my way to Newark. Currently at Zurich airport.
Tokyo to New York sounds like a blast to finish out. Dude you’re both going to be miserable trying to jam that all into 8 days. Jet lagged the whole time, lying to yourselves and trying to reaffirm it because you’re in a different place eating unusual food. Drop that money on a vacation to a tropical paradise and pass out on the beach at 3PM. Wake up at 5:30 to an all you can eat buffet until you drink yourself to sleep.
I did Newark to Singapore thru Los Angeles once. It was the inaugural non stop flight between Los Angeles and Singapore for United. Flew 6 hours from Newark to Los Angeles then 17.5 hours from Los Angeles to Singapore in economy. Flew back thru Tokyo. 14 hours direct flight from Tokyo to Newark. So I did it before byz.
I hear you. But you are talking to a couple who doesn't know swimming and who doesn't like beach pool all inclusive concept. We love doing quirky things like going to a coffee house in Vienna where Lenin and Hitler both went along with Sigmund Freud. Which tropical vacation can beat that? But I plan to do some cheap all inclusive vacations in Turkey when I am over 50 and done with my bucket list. After the Australia trip I will still have Argentina-Chile tour and Tanzania Safari tour. After that we will do some all inclusive in Turkey.
I’m no world traveler, but I would personally rather pick one place I really want to go and spend the whole time there. That’s a lot of exhausting traveling, and not enough time in any one place to really enjoy it. Just my opinion. You really gotta “get a feel for the city”.
You are definitely right. Problem is, I am almost 50 and I don't have much time left to do 2 or 3 trips to Asia. But your point is valid.
Maybe you would be able to have a relaxing vacation if you weren't planning them around your death. Just a thought.
Sure you do - my first trip to Australia was when I was 69 - celebrated my birthday at the Great Barrier Reef. But if I tried to do three countries in two less days even when I was fifty, it probably would have killed me. Rather than a 24 hour east coast-west coast-Australia test of strength of flights and airports, I split the trips in half with a layover in Honolulu both ways. Hawaiian Air is very competitive with the biggies and the pace and service is almost a pleasure. You can stop and smell the roses or lie under a blanket of them. Life is a marathon - not a sprint!
Dear byz. I am an immigrant and it took me time to be able to afford these trips. When I was young, I didn't have the money
