We can’t sign a WR with a name as dull as John Brown. I’m only backing up the truck for DaJohn Browntavius.
I agree except with the idea of Otto Von Rotten starting for this team. My first preference would be Thuney but could live with Lindsey at C and McGovern and Trai Turner/Gabe Jackson at the guard spots. WR, interior OL, DE and CB. In that order.
Is it tomorrow at 4 or tonight at midnight? It’s hard enough to work from home, if I could get until at least 4pm tomorrow to attempt to do some work that would be great.
There are just way too many options available to be spending massive money on an IOL that has only played well for the Pats. History says he won’t play well elsewhere.
Mosley might have cost himself the Hall of Fame by signing with the Jets. He was a guy who needed a great prime to get there and a SB championship. Odds are he never gets either of those at this point. As Jets fans we suffer whenever the franchise gets stupid and takes shortcuts, however the players we get stupid on generally watch their careers go into the toilet bowl also. It's kind of like an unbroken circle of misery except the players get rich on all that silly money.
Yeah, that. I was looking for something in the CBA about it but I got bored quickly. It started at noon in 2020 so it makes sense.
https://www.nfl.com/news/2021-nfl-free-agency-glossary-all-the-terms-you-need-to-know This is what I was looking at. "Teams are allowed to negotiate with the agents of upcoming unrestricted free agents during the "Two Day Negotiating Period," a 48-hour window prior to the start of free agency (in 2021: from 4 p.m. ET on March 15 until 4 p.m. ET on March 17)."
We don't have a ton of JD off-seasons to guess what he will do this offseason. It's more his words "Build through the draft". Our team has so many weak spots it could take JD at least 3-4 drafts to finally field a great team (2-3 more after last draft class). I'm not certain how he approaches FAs. So far he seems to be content to use FA as bandaids to give him max flexibility in the draft. In other words, he doesn't want to have any 'MUST DRAFT' positions which tend to force GMs to reach. He wants all his holes 'filled' going into the draft, then wheel and deal while he grabs his own guys where he can. I'm not sure if JD will spend big on a A+ FA (thuney, Robinson types), especially this far away from competing for a ring. Although I read JD tried to get Thuney last year b4 the Pats tagged him, so maybe he will (just b/c it the all-important offensive line).
I think we will see atleast one “big splash”, one 2nd tier signing, and the rest solid pieces to fill out the needs. We have a ton of money to spend and the team obviously has holes so I can’t see us just sitting back here. Lots of teams are cap-strapped too so we might get some solid values
Agreed but I don't even really see a splash signing coming. I think Austin Blythe from the Rams would adequately fill the open guard spot. Maybe a linebacker like the kid Walker from Indy.
In addition to this, Basham, Hewitt, Jenkins, Luvu might not be coming back either. That’s a lot of people to replace. Mosley, Zuniga and who else is left that can play linebacker? Only thing we have for a certainty is the secondary, Davis, Bryce Hall, Maye and possibly Guidry. Damn that’s a lot of holes to fill! Jets need playmakers but for now it seems they need not worry about quantity, get one or two guys that can make a difference!
Ya, JD signed a bunch of 1 yr FA Band-Aids last year hoping to fill that spot in the draft with 'his guys'. I expect him to do the same this year, lots of 1 yr gap-fillers. Maybe 1 high flying FA for the oline?
Also another thought, IF JD trades for Watson, that will throw a monkey wrench in his 'build through the draft' mantra. He'll be forced to build more quickly using FA, something he's probably no thrilled with but won't have a choice.
I hear ya. BUT if he trades for Watson, we will no longer be a team-rebuilding. We'll be a win-now team. First, he'll lose a lot of his premium draft cap, and he really can't sit back for 2-3 years 'building' a franchise. He'll have to start showing results (ie, playoff wins) within a year. His next two drafts will be hollowed out, forcing him to turn to FA in ways he never dreamed of when he took the job. But no one saw the Watson thing coming.
I don’t think it’ll happen....Houston will want too much and I don’t think JD is going to give up what Houston will ask for
