I don't know--maybe numbers in the 90s didn't have the same cache in the 1960s as they did years later.

SHEA STADIUM - Dallas Cowboys v. New York Giants

Yes, Shea Stadium. A little known fact is while the Yankees played at Shea during renovations in '74 & '75, the Giants also played at Shea during the 1975 season.

I remember those days at Shea with the dirt/dust swirling, papers flying in the air, the screwy wind currents.

Last Jet game ever at Shea there was grass swirling (aside from in the stands). Bright, sunny Saturday, the Jets lay an egg 34-7 to Pitt. At the end of the game the fun starts: fans pour out onto the field and start tearing and rolling up the turf sod to take as souveniers. A phalanx of security heads out towards them from the closed end of the stadium and the fans begin to turn tail and retreat towards the far endzone...

...until it dawns on the fans that they have 'numbers' on their side whereupon they stop their retreat dead in their tracks and start grabbing clumps of turf and firing it at the security detail. Suddenly it's a "180" with security backpedeling and the crowd (what was left of it) cheering them on. I remember Jerry Erskinazi (sp?) in the NYT whining about "the fans" the next day but to tell the truth, that was the best part of the afternoon. Watched it from the closed end mezzanine - good show; like watching some 'chicken wingers' getting clobbered in a one-sided snowball fight. : )

Shea trivia: six players hit regular-season homers at Shea for both the Mets and Yankees - name them:

(click and drag below for answers):

Bill Sudakis, Elliott Maddox, Darryl Strawberry, Robin Ventura, Shane Spencer, and Tony Clark.

I had forgotten about Elliot Maddox playing for both. He was smooth. The only one I got was Strawberry. Had also forgotten about Shane Spencer playing for both. Had completely forgotten that Robin Ventura played for either, much less both. LOL Don't even remember the other two at all.

Barzilauskus once posted on here to defend himself after some ridiculed him for eating his way off the roster. True story.
