Who the fuck is rooting for a losing season? I am simply answering the question as to whether or not I think the Jets will be good next year.

I will root like a maniac, like I have done for the past 36 years, week in and week out for this team to do well and win the SB.

Please, oh learned one, explain why the Jets will win 11 games next year.

You make good points, but it goes to my preface that if you don't have a good starting QB, then you better have a bunch of playmakers at other positions AND get lucky throughout the regular season.

I just don't see where the Jets can make up for their glaring deficiency at QB. Again, it's early in the off-season and things can change drastically. But with the current roster and salary obligations, it's hard to imagine this team improving enough in those other areas.

NYJR24 -- Predicting what I think will happen vs what I want to happen are two totally different things.

I want the Mets to win the WS this year. I think they will finish in 4th place with about 70-75 wins.

You can infer all you want to support your argument but did not making it seem like anything. I was just pointing out that it hasn't been that bad. There was some good in the "Muck" era. That's all; no more, no less.

I don't see how anyone can predict anything when we haven't gone through FA and the draft. If we knew that we would be fielding relatively the same team as we did this past year, then maybe but we know that's not going to the case.

Wow, you're an optimist. I think 70 is their ceiling this season.

Yeah if we had more money for FA or a bunch of draft picks, I would be more opportunistic, but I'm not really sure how to get to 10-6. It requires hitting on our #9 pick, and getting a couple sleepers and avoiding injuries. I mean honestly some teams won SBs doing that, but we need all that just to probably top 6-10 and reach 10-6 next year.

THings will change, but we need to hit on everything and get some luck not only in games but in the draft.

Yeah. The way I see it, a multitude of things would have to fall right this off season for the Jets to have a winning record (assuming nothing drastic happens at QB).

#1 They would have to hit HRs on at least their first 4 picks. I'm talking about guys who could step in day one and make an impact.

#2 Guys like Coples, Ellis, Davis, Hill and Powell (maybe even Cumberland, Bush and Ducasse) need to make that significant jump from promise to production. All these guys would have to prove they can not only contribute but be reliable starters on this team.

#3 Whatever guys the FO brings in FA need to be solid. No more guys like Schilens, Tebow (I know he was a trade), Hilliard, Reuland. They are not going to have much to spend in FA so they need to make their signings count.

#4 Rex really needs to get control of this team. Like most people, I thought Rex was a breath of fresh air in 09. But when the team starts losing, things seem to spiral out of control.

I would take the over if the Vegas line is 70.

There starting pitching is decent and when Wheeler comes up in June they should have 4 guys who can win on any given night.

There IF is OK and it's almost impossible for their bullpen to be worse than it was last year.

That OF though? Seriously. They aren't going to start one major leaguer out there.

wow! after reading this thread, if the internet had existed back in 1970, you could have seen lots of similar thoughts just about every year for the past 43.

outside of a few years with walt michaels and the tuna running the team, it's been a l-o-n-g, long, long, long wait.

I personally am pretty optimistic. Rex's biggest flaw in my eyes was putting too much trust in his project QB and OC's. This past season was a wake up call, I really think Marty is going to help us put points on the board (no matter who the QB is). Idzik realizes the offense needs an overhaul, we have some good pieces we just need to compliment them. As far as the defense goes, I have seen Rex do a lot with mediocre talent based on scheme and relying on his talented DB's. The only thing that honestly scares me is the schedule, we are facing a very tough NFC South and AFC North respectively, added with the Pats twice and the Bills now have our defensive playbook a long with the up and coming Fins. We have a long road ahead of us, but I truly believe we can compete with anybody if the right moves are made this off season. The ball is in your court Idzik. Show us what you got.

Did you have a prediction for 2012 last off season? IF so, what was it?

    I predicted 7-9. I was too optimistic.

This year I do not yet have a prediction, because a decent prediction cannot yet be made, since a large number of roster moves remain to be done.

But based on the present roster and moves that will likely be made, and if Sanchez is the starting Qb, I think five wins sounds about right. It might be too optimistic, though.

I predicted the Jets would win the SB in 2012. I also thought Mark Sanchez was going to be a good NFL QB in 2012 and the Jets would be able to run the ball in 2012 and throw down the field in 2012.

My guess is in 2013 we will win the SB.

Agree on all 4. That sums up. All the young/question mark players have to hit their potential. Throw in a 5, we need to avoid injuries, recover a bunch of fumbles, tipped balls fall our way, shanked FGs. We need all of that, unless we pick/sign/QB on the roster turns into gold immediately and then obviously less things on the list above have to occur to be good.

Not really on too optimistic. You couldn't have expected 2 of our top 3 skill position players to go down (Holmes/Revis/Cro as top 3 is fair I think) for the majority of the season. I mean I don't think anyone factors in the top CB and top WR going down when making a season prediction.

Please don't be offended, but I would have to say you seem to have a tendency to be overoptimistic, at least when it comes to the Jets, given that track record.

    Jus sayin....
