    Sanchez...good guy, poor pro QB

Has to go...too much $$$ invested and it would be a bad environment for the whole team

He has to go to a team like Green Bay where he can sit for a year and maybe earn himself a new contract he following year

I don't see the benefit of him going to a bad team and trying to get the starting job, ultimately setting himself up for failure.

If he can backup a very good QB and get some garbage time/injury time, it would be good for him

Just substitute in Sanchez for Smith in the following quotes:

Smith is going to be called on to hand the ball off and not screw up. His numbers, aside from the Falcons came, been lousy. I don't see him exploding for 15TD and 5INTs over the last 7 games. Lets' see if he can hit 10TD passes total for the season first. If they are planning on drafting a QB in 2014 you don't bring back Sanchez..if they are going to see how Smith does in year two there is nothing wrong with bringing back Sanchez at a heavily reduced one year salary. He has always been a solid teammate, good mentor, creates an actual situation where the backup could play which was the biggest knock on Brunell sitting behind Sanchez and now Gerrard/Sims sitting behind Smith. Sanchez would create competition yet again and would allow the team to focus on skill players on offense outside the QB position in the next draft.

blackmagic, you're thinking of NIU's Jordan Lynch. The knock on him is his size and his arm.

However, TONIGHT it just so happens that #15-ranked NIU is hosting Ball State who has a QB that I wouldn't mind Idzik at least taking a look at: Keith Wenning. Kid has physical tools. Wenning gets to show his stuff in a hostile environment against a ranked team. While Ball State's not in the class of NIU team-wise, Wenning's size and arm would be an interesting enough package to check out this evening (ESPN2).

Just let Mark ride off into the sunset and lets all back Geno, He is our QB now and going forward. All Geno needs now is the weapons and the first 4 rounds of next years draft will be where all that comes from. BYE Mark.

But it would be worse with Sanchez than say a Matt Simms.

The homers on this board, with there blind hatred of Sanchez, actually believe Geno is a major upgrade from Sanchez, don't argue logic

It would depend on what the coach asks Sanchez to do, can he carry a franchise? Unfortunately I dont think he ever had the talent to do that, but he can definitely be an effective game manager like Alex Smith If hes given the tools around him. So my answer to the TC would be yes given the same circumstances.

I think Sanchez can't wait to get out of NY because of how he was handled in the preseason. He''s probably glad to get paid to wear a hairband on the sidelines, and blames the Jets for his injury. So all this pay cut talk is pie-in-the-sky. Just a miseducated guess.

Even if he were willing, we don't know how his shoulder is going to come out of the surgery. Pennington had the smarts to play with a weak arm. Not so sure about Sanchez.

At the same time, I'm not anointing Geno yet, although at his best he's unquestionably better than Sanchez at his best. He just has to be at his best more often. Looking forward to these last seven games.

since you do not have a crystal ball, you simply do not know how Geno will do during the second half of the season. Oh I believe you want him to fail so that your hero stays a JET but I am a Jets fan and want to win no matter who the QB is. Sucky had 5 years to be the real deal and failed. Remember last Thanksgiving! Geno has had 9 games and you are critical. Look in a mirror! What you are advocating would ruin a promising QB in Geno. Every time he makes a a mistake I can just hear you and the rest of the fan boys yelling for REX to play Sucky. I'd really want no part of that! GO JETS!

Sanchez seems like the definition of a perfect BU QB.

Suck balls one day, knock Manning and Brady out of the playoffs, and just when you think we may have something special, suck balls the next day.

Why keep hot garbage around? All he can ever become with the Jets moving forward is a media distraction. We'd have to hear his name being brought up by the media whenever our QB has a bad game. I like the guy but he's not a capable starting QB in my eyes. He's never proven it.

Alex Smith was always a guy who could complete a high percentage of his passes, even when the team around him was bad he completed around 60% of the throws he made. Sanchez has never proved to be anything more then an inaccurate mistake prone QB. Yes he's one some big games but he's way to inconsistent. The guy has yet to put together a completely solid season.

Sanchez needs to leave the Jets, go to a team like St. Louis, Minnesota, whatever team has a shaky QB situation. He could go there and compete for the job. Most likely he is going to probably have to be a backup somewhere for a couple years and hope for another opportunity to prove he can be a starter.

The last thing the Jets need is a QB competition for a third year in a row in the offseason. Its time to give the job to Smith and let a QB take all the offseason reps while providing him with some weapons in free agency and the draft.

I can't believe Idzik wants to go through another training camp of "here are the QB stats from this morning's practice".........

    Sanchez is a goner.

I don't think that Sanchez can or should stay in New York in 2014.

Smith is promising enough that we want to see how he does in 2014. If you keep Sanchez, even with a huge pay cut, it creates a distracting controversy where 60% of the media and 10% of the fan base wants to see Sanchez as the starter, and any time Smith had a bad game Rex would have to answer a whole bunch of questions about whether he's thinking about starting Sanchez.

Mark does deserve the chance to get a fresh start with another team. Either he'll compete against one of the 2014 rookie QBs, or another team will think they can fix him. At the very least, he can be a career backup.

    But not with the Jets.
