If they can't evaluate these guys before traning camp were screwed. A QB comp is the worst idea. That's what got us to where we are today. They have to evaluate the QB's and give the guy they believe in the work. QB competitions are for teams going nowhere.

If Shotty is retained and can't decide who to make a go with it than he should be shit canned today. He's been around both of these guys for two years now, Clemens for three.

I know you may find this a stupid Idea but what about trading for Shaun Hill if SF drafts a QB?
Another idea is to get Alex Smith for little money. I know it sounds waaaaaaaay stupid but my point is that many times these guys have the talent of a 1st round pick but not the head. And the only way they can develop it is by eating a lot of s**t like A. Smith did in his years in SF. I think now is just about the right time to give him his last shot in the NFL... i mean he can't be much worse than Clemens can he?
Otherwise trade the 2nd round pick for Brady Quinn but i'm afraid Mangini will start him over Anderson :(...

I honestly liked what i saw in David Carr during garbage duty again the vikings week 17. 8/11 110 yards and a TD. His line with the texans was a human turnstile, guy got sacked 60+ times, carolina was in complete disarray last season even vinny took some snaps and the running game wasn't even in the ball park of what it was this year. I'd sign Carr for cheap money, Ryan is on record saying he is looking to pound the rock Meaning all we need is a game manager, that could air it out from time to time. The guys got a cannon for an arm, and with the right protection he could be awesome i feel. For sure he aint Joey Harrington, or Alex Smith

Just my honest opinion, and if Favre retires, who are we turning too.

Yes I did, thanks to you, the girl with the George Carlin avatar, and the makers of Photoshop. It took me a while to make. I hope you like it. I think it's much better than the other one :)

Because the posters on the board look for the negatives they can find then they see somebody post something that sounds good and write it in their own words and that cycle happens over and over.

There are certain camps among the fanbase. This is not atypical a situation, but it affects the discussion here. Clemens came up as the anti-Chad. That still plays out in these discussions.

    Not necessarily true.

I have the tapes of the Browns and Dolphins games, but not the Steelers game (as someone mentioned), sorry. The same damned thing happens every time with Clemens. He is GREAT running the spread and sitting back in the shotgun. When he has to do his drops, though, he has zero pocket presence, makes bad decisions and is far less accurate with the ball. He's a good spread QB. The Jets want to run the ball down peoples' throats. The two don't mesh. So he leads a couple of good drives. He looks horrible (horrible decisions, horrible throws) the rest of those games, and in almost the entire span of the other games. I've said it once, I'll say it again - Ratliff, as we saw him in the preseason, is NOT the answer. IF he progresses half as much from this season to next as he did from last season to this season, then he will be the answer. The idiots saying Ratliff is ready now are, well, idiots. The idiots that are saying Clemens is ready, are, well, idiots. Look at how Clemens has played and not the outcomes of the games. Look at him this preseason in the same exact situation as Ratliff. The Jets have two quarterbacks that ran a spread in college, and only one of them can take snaps from under center without looking like a moron, and that guy (as per this preseason) is not ready to lead an NFL team.

But if he continues to progress then he will be ready in the future. If he doesn't continue to progress, then the Jets need a different QB as opposed to those two (Clemens/Ratliff). Either Favre needs to actually go through the offseason conditioning program so his arm doesn't give out at the end of the season or the front office needs to bring in a veteran free agent QB.

Whether Favre returns or not, the Jets will not sit idly by with Clemens, Ratty and the Ainge project. The Jets have a good team, so they can afford to draft a qb. I believe their first pick will go towards that qb, whether it's the two mentioned or another. I do think they're going to trade up to get Sanchez though. But they will draft one, though. That means they will be forced with a situation on who to drop. Ratty has the size and skills. I think Clemens and Ainge are the odd men out. Clemens needs to have a near perfect pre-season to be retained as a back-up. And then do you take a chance and get rid of Ratliff. I don't see that happening. As I said, I don't think Clemens will be in the NFL, following pre-season.

You remember how fat the heft lefty was picked up when he was cut? There's always a team that will let a young highly-drafted QB hold a clipboard.

    - Note: I accidentally typed "fat" instead of "fast", but it made me chuckle so I left it :D
