luck is barely, "20-something". he will be 29 this season but the main differences are that luck is still not healthy and he will make roughly four times as much as the sixth pick
Not to mention the fact that if a high pick busts it’s unfortunate but is the result of multiple factors you can’t predict but are inherent risks in drafting any player. That’s just part of participating in the draft. But trading for an injured player, with the injury known, and simply hoping he gets healthy, isn’t an unknown, it’s wishful thinking. If you take that risk, and it doesn’t pan out, you can’t simply say it was the same risk as drafting a player simply because the net result is the same.
I don't think the Brees comparison is terrible, but it is self-serving for the result presented by the person making that comparison, when there are similar comparisons that didn't result so well. Brees had torn his throwing shoulder labrum, same as Chad Pennington. He hadn't lit the world on fire previously, although he was a pretty good QB at the time. San Diego fell in love with the top of the draft and later used the labrum injury to send him packing. The Dolphins let themselves be scared off by the injury and picked another guy with a different injury. At least we never had to play against the Drew Brees Dolphins. That would have fucking sucked.
Agreed. I don't think there's a single QB, and I say literally, not one quarterback in the history of the NFL, that this board wouldn't reject by a 10 to 1 ratio. I don't think even Payton Manning, Joe Montana, Dan Marino, or John Elway would get a nod of approval. When asked, well who DO we pick for our QB? The only answer is "There's nobody. We're fucked."
MacCagnan, CALL THE COLTS!!!!!! Make a deal with them for Luck or their draft pick. $100 million in cap space & a full draft to work with. Do it before Buffalo effs us!!!!!!
