Man, I'm sick of seeing these types of thread. Bart Scott is a disappointment, Shonn Greene can't shoulder the load, etc. I get when things don't go as well as you hoped you want to turn some positions over, but lets look at this objectively. Scott has played his position well above average for the year (props to salz for the stats). Between him and Harris we have one of the most formidable ILB corps in the NFL. The roster needs some turnover in certain places IMO (OLB, S, RT), but ILB is not one of them. On top of that, and most importantly, Scott's contract is guaranteed for next year, so he isn't going anywhere.
Because when we cut Faneca we saved 1-2 mill... here we save NOTHING. Plus, if I remember correctly, didn't we cut him in the no cap season?
More like 4.3 in 2012 (guarantted), 6.9 in 2013 and 7.8 in 2014. He's never seeing the 2013 or 2014 money.
His whole contract is guaranteed for 2012. All we'd save are some roster bonus if he's supposed to earn any next year.
Acc to this site. his cap value is $5.9m, his dead money value is $7.2m, resulting in a $1.250,000.00 cap hit if cut http://nyjetscap.com/salary12.html
Right-he'd take up 7.2 million of the 2012 cap, and the Jets would lose 1.25 million in cap space if they cut him rather than keeping him.
Yes that's what I meant by a cap hit If they cut him after 2012, they get a $7.150,000.00 cap savings
Not many people get this. You do not need to get rid of Bart Scott, that would be a mistake. However, we need to find his successor now (draft?), get him on the team, and get him ready for the future. I don't know what kind of free agency is available at that position.
