This is a horseshit move, plain and simple. I am furious about this. Normally I put my faith in the front office on moves I don't agree with, but not this time. They fucked up.
Thing is, Cotch wanted a change. He felt like he performed when asked to be a #1 WR, yet the team kept looking at other WR options as he slid down the depth chart. Do you think the Jets should have told him "No, fuck that, you're staying as our disgruntled #3?" He was unhappy and wants a chance to start somewhere else.
The guy didn't want to be here. I don't think the organization wants an unhappy player around the team all year.
I'm not happy about the move, all the best for Cotch. I understand this is a business move, but I dont like it from a football perspective.
I was extremely upset upon hearing this, HUGE Cotchery fan, I understand he was asked to be cut, but only after they worked out Derick Mason who will turn 73 this January. Cotch was a gamer, extremely tough, he said he's healthy, and let's be honest, he didn't ask to be traded for no reason. The Jets did everything they could to chase him out it seems, Derick Mason? Really?
Manish says this started in February when Cotch asked for a trade so he can start somewhere, get his numbers up, and have a better chance at a big contract extension: http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/je...o-cotchery-requested-to-be-traded-or-released
Aaaaand one more post, going for the trifecta... Manish just tweeted this as well: TheJetsStream Manish Mehta Source on why Jerricho Cotchery wanted out: "He didn't want to be here any more. He felt disrespected and underappreciated." #nyj 3 minutes ago
I didn't mind Cotch being the number 3 with both Holmes and Edwards on the team, but he should be starting over Burress this year. I know Burress has size and is a physical receiver, but I just don't like that we're getting a guy out of jail who might not even be able to contribute due to the great deal of rust. I know people are going to disagree with me, and that's fine, but I just don't think Burress at this moment is a better receiver than Cotch. Today's just been a weird day, with Braylon getting signed for peanuts in San Francisco and cutting Cotchery. I'm glad to hear Kerley could step into the fold and be our 3rd receiver.
^^^ Yep. Looks like Cotchery was trying to make this happen for a while and the team, as reported, wanted him to play out his contract. Wow. When we were searching for a reason for this, money was the only thing that made sense. Cotchery crying over his position on the team never would have occurred to me. So, we're supposed to feel sorry for Cotchery when he wanted to leave rather than take a reduced role at FULL salary to help this team win a championship? Like I said earlier, he'll probably make more money this way. That's where his priorities seem to lay.
