I was wondering this as well. I guess since it went backwards, it was legit?

QBs kicking the ball out of the end zone always draw a flag. Same reasoning. You can't kick the ball away to avoid turnover.

This is coming straight out of the NFL rule book:

    ILLEGALLY KICKING BALL

Article 9 No player may deliberately kick any loose ball or ball in player’s possession.
Penalty: For illegally kicking the ball: Loss of 10 yards. For enforcement, treat as a foul during a
backward pass or fumble (see 8-7-7).
    SUPPLEMENTAL NOTES
    (1) If a loose ball is touched by any part of a player’s leg (including knee), it is not considered kicking and
    is treated merely as touching.
    (2) If the penalty for an illegal bat or kick is declined, the procedure is the same as though the ball had been merely muffed. However, if the act (impetus) sends the ball in touch, 3-15-3 applies.
    (3) The penalty for Article 8 and 9, does not preclude a penalty for a palpably unfair act, when a deliberate kick or illegal bat actually prevents an opponent from recovering. See Palpably Unfair Act 12-3-3.
    (4) The ball is not dead when an illegal kick is recovered.

A.R. 12.9 Second-and-15 on A2. Quarterback A1 fumbles a snap in the end zone. While the ball is loose on the ground there, A1 deliberately kicks it. The ball is last touched by B1 before going out of bounds on A’s 2-yard line.
    Ruling: Safety. See 8-7-3-Item 3-c; 11-5-1; and 12-1-9.

    For the Palpably Unfair Act:

    PALPABLY UNFAIR ACT (PLAYER)

Article 3 A player or substitute shall not interfere with play by any act which is palpably unfair.

Penalty: For a palpably unfair act: Offender may be disqualified. The Referee, after consulting his crew, enforces any such distance penalty as they consider equitable and irrespective of any other specified code penalty. The Referee could award a score.
    See 15-1-6.

Did you really think that was deliberate? When he was going ass over elbows I don't think his last thought was to kick the ball back to Carr.

I don't think it was a deliberate kick, MJD didn't know what day it was. I'm wondering if it will be a fine on Coples, he pretty much smashed Jones-Drew in the facemask with his forearm.

MJD was a world class soccer player in HS. That looked like a perfectly timed and perfectly executed bicycle kick. It was like the World Cup all over again, except with excitement and scoring. Would have made Neymar proud.

Would be pretty hypocritical if they did, being that they have the play on their plays of the week on NFL.com

They used plays they've fined players for on their promos, are you just figuring out their hypocrisy?

Yeah, a world class gymnast, too. I understand Cirque du Soleil is trying to recruit him when he leaves the NFL. Now if he could only read minds, make trucks disappear and train tigers he'd be the next Wayne Newton.

He was in a performance of Cirque du Soleil --The Beatles version-- at my local High School.

    True story.

And here I thought Wayne Newton was just a singer (and a juggler of the books.)
