    I disagree.

First, there should be accountability for doing a shitty job. If you or I did such a shitty job since the day we were hired, we sure wouldn't have lasted as long as Gase (or Bowles or Macc, et. al.)!

Second, until Gase is actually fired, he's the HC. Bowles sucked for his entire tenure as HC and look how long he lasted. What makes anyone think it's a fait accompli that Gase will be fired at the end of the season? Until it actually happens I'm not counting on it.

Third, what makes you believe that the Jets will actually "win" the 1st pick? They ALWAYS manage to win 2-3 meaningless games to "snatch defeat from the jaws of victory" with drafting, so again, until they actually own the #1 pick, I'm not counting on it.

Fourth, even if they defy their ineptitude and get the #1 pick, what makes you so sure that they'll take Lawrence (or whomever is the #1 rated QB)? Parcells had the #1 pick and traded it and he didn't even have someone with as much upside as Darnold. I've said I believe Douglas has a blueprint and is building to it, and I also believe that's the right way to go, but that blueprint may not include taking a highly rated QB this time. Maybe he wants to build the foundation first before he starts the clock running on an expensive QB contract. Or maybe he's dumb ass like most Jets GMs and simply passes on acquiring the most important piece to any team. Again, until he makes that pick, I'm not counting on it.

To add it all up, all of you who are saying "Keep Gase so we can tank for Trevor" are making a lot of unfounded assumptions based upon the history of this team.

you would love to be able to hire the guy that will eventually replace him sooner than later so he can start to get to know the personnel and make better decisions this off season. but that is usually almost impossible unless you have a guy coming out of retirement.

the jets will let this shit show happen as long as possible, they are still paying bowles until the end of the year and do not want to pay 3 head coaches. bowles, gase and the new one. i think that if the upper management wants to try and figure out if darnold has anything they should get rid of gase now, but if their mind is made up that they will probably keep him. any way you cut it this year is going to be a turd, and next year as well.

sadly anyone with any football acumen could see this bullshit coming, it was a bad team last year that played a horribly easy schedule and this year is a really tough schedule. on top of it we got rid of our best player for future hope and nothing current and the team has had a number of injuries.

Let him coach! He made this bed let him lay in it. I’d rather Gase suffer with this type of season for the rest of his life than always have the excuse that the Jets still sucked without him which they surely would.

Plus there is no question keeping him gives us the best chance to secure that top pick even though they’d be the odds on favorite even if God was the HC.

We do not have to Tank, I personally believe if we win any games it will be a miracle with this CS.

By keeping the CS they're going to play all the vets because they think they will give them the best chance to win. Pretty much from here on out I want to see all the young dudes(Mott the Hoople) out there. Throw them in the deep end and let them sink or swim.

I just don't care what they do because regardless this dumpster fire will continue. I am so apathetic about this team atm and even the team seems apathetic. This to shall pass but holy shit I hope they get out of this cycle of misery. I hope you all have a good weekend with you family and friends. Lord knows that is the important stuff in life not the New York Fucking Jets. I leave you with a Haiku.

    Apathy rules them.

It will take a year just to remove the stench that Adam Gase brings to the team. Fire him now and let it start to air out before next season.

At this point they should just ride it out. Whatever it takes for the #1 pick.

You are wrong; Charley Winner (Weeb's son in law) was fired with five games remaining in the 1975 season. He had gone 7 - 7 the year before but only because he pulled the last six out of his ass somehow. Sound familiar? Hint: It's not because he was a good coach. When he started 1975 at 2 - 7 that was more than nepotism could support and he was fired by Leon Hess on November 19 - my birthday! I am proud to have been a small part of his demise.

If Hess could do it, Johnson can too.

“But Gase went 6-2 in second half of the season. It was too early to evaluate 2020 strength of schedule... you never know!” I get being positive but sometimes fans/team/media need to think critically. They were the worst offense in the league last year and didn’t add much in the way of weapons. What was Darnold supposed to just become Dan Marino over night?

The OP is not contrarian thought. It is normal thought in most circumstances.

Jets-land is definitely not normal thought land at this point.

BTW, my support for not firing Gase and other members of the CS at this point is not support for keeping them long-term. I just don't want to look like the short-bus franchise, which is what firing people right now would do, when we're trying to figure out how to move forward in December and January.

You are correct. I missed that part - and I was part of that demise also.

we had the first pick in the draft in the tuna era, and peyton manning stayed in school.

eli forced the chargers to trade him , and elway did the same in baltimore.

there is no guartentee that you will get trevor. and, if he opts out of the draft, what exactly do you think you will get offered to trade that pick?

with typical jets luck, you will get stuck with it, or just offered pennies on the dollar.

Keep the CS. Don’t want to root for the new interim guy who ever it may be to do good.

I don’t think Trevor Lawrence is the top QB just yet. Too early to say. Prefer a more athletic QB.

True, and Mike Greenberg flat out told Trevor to stay in school if jets have #1 pick, haha

Ok, so the issue in one hand is paying multiple coaches for this year and saving some money, which should teach J&J why they should not ever again be selecting the head coach, but empowering a talented GM to help them...and on the other hand, keeping Gase till the end of the year with the risk of completely destroying Sam, and may be even Becton, and others that are absolutely struggling within his system and personnel management and his play calling inflexibility.
The season is lost. Period. Why can’t we suck it up within the remaining CS, make a few moves, let them go out there and have some fun, play loose, open up the playbook, let the youngsters have a chance, win or loose it could not possibly be any worst or embarrassing that keeping Gase at the helm.
May be, just may be, the loyal fans will see we mean business for once, recognizing and accepting our mistakes in the selection process.

Anyone who has not seen enough to know that Gase is not a good HC, let alone a HC that can get them to a SB, just doesn't know anything about football - sadly that includes the Johnsons. Because if they did know anything about football, they'd realize there is NOTHING to be gained by allowing Gase to continue as HC. NOTHING. Unless you somehow believe that he IS a good HC and just needs a few breaks and a little more time, and a healthy roster to prove that your belief is right. This is the Johnsons belief. But that faith is SO out of line with reality, that it would only pay dividends on Opposite World.

If the Johnsons were at Jonestown they would've been first to grab the Kool Aid.
