very confident. i never doubt rex's football knowledge. he has some coaching skills to refine,but the knowledge is there and the skills will follow idzick is doing solid work. no panic moves,no reaching and has added 5 guys(i am counting ivory as a draft pick) through the draft that could all be starters this year.
Here's how i see it so far: -downgraded at CB which includes wasting a top ten draft pick -wasted a top 15 pick on depth, likely limited reps for him or other DT -wasted second rounder on QB that won't amount to anything -trading a fourth when it should have been a fifth at best for depth Honestly the best pick so far is Winters. A guard. Yeah, brutal so far.
What? A) Dee is an upgrade on our number 2 CB Wilson B) Richardson gives Ryan even more options and schemes to use making our d line very strong C) What's the lottery numbers because you can see into the future D) were you involved in the negotiations because you have no clue what it "should've been"
A) he's a downgrade on Revis, furthermore CB wasn't even a particular area of need compared to other picks they could have made B) sure, but how many snaps will he get? If not him then who? Are we going to a base 4-3? If so are we built for that? C) watch the tape, it's pretty telling. If you had tape of them pulling out the lottery balls it wouldn't be hard to pick the numbers, right? D) he's there what fifth string RB? If he's a fourth hate to see what their one or two guy would cost Bonus: putting Milliner in a bad spot with Revis comparisons and putting themselves in a spot where they either have to cut Sanchez or put Geno in an awkward spot, probably have to cut Tebow as well to reduce the sideshow.
GM and HC I really like the draft so far. The new GM seems to know his stuff. At this point the HC is unimportant. Rex only has input on the defense and doesn't mind at all. This way the GM can more or less dictate the direction of the team. Rex gives good speeches and is more like a defensive coordinator-head cheerleader. If he doesn't realize it keep him around forever.
If this is what we have in store moving forward, highly confident... but its still too early in the tenure but I am so fucking happy this year. Last year I was bitter and felt nothing from that draft. This year its different.

Jets could always re-sign John Abraham for 1 season. He would take care of that need. Jets basically have maybe, too many holes to fix in 1 season, within the salary cap. D'Brick re-shuffled his contract today, & don't bet against Idzik making a few trades of some of his players.

I'm in total "wait & see" mode. I think a Rex coached team can be a Super Bowl winner, but it's not because he's a great head coach - he's just too disinterested in the other side of the ball to be a complete HC. And he seems to be an awful talent evaluator (on both sides of the ball). Which means the GM must be a defacto HC and he needs to pair Rex with a top notch OC (ie, not-Schotty, not-Sparano) and a QB or it's just not going to work. Rex, the DC, can coach with anyone. So, really, my feeling is that the team sinks or swims with the GM's ability to handle everything but the defensive side of the ball (Drafting, FAs, the cap, the OC) and he's too new to make a reasonable call on whether or not he can handle it.
It's going to be funny to find out which people will pretend they didn't like Idzik when this franchise is mired in mediocrity for the next five years.
I voted confident. To be honest, when you ignore the noise in the media, this team doesn't look that bad to me at all. I presume we are going to be favoring a 4-3 base set on defense next year which gives us a d line of Coples, K. Ellis, Richardson, and Wilkerson. I like this front 4, I think they're going to be great. Then when you get to the LBs, we still have Harris, Davis, Paces, and others, and signed Barnes, an okay LB core to me combined with the others. And when you get into the secondary I presume we're going to have Cro and Milliner starting at CB, Dawan Landry at Safety, paired with ??? maybe Wilson? I think our defense is going to be good next year, top 10 in the league, and I'm confident in saying that. And when you get to the offense, the emergence of Powell and the trade for Ivory are going to be huge for us, we will finally have a potent running game again. On the O line we still have Brick and Mangold, Howard performed better than expected at RT, and now we've drafted Winters at G. All we need is one other guard to fill in for moore/slauson. I think Hill showed flashes of greatness last year, particularly in week 1, and expect him to improve tremendously, and we've already seen how explosive Kerley can be in the slot and on special teams. With Santonio coming back, I think the Jets really just need to look for one more starting caliber WR and TE, and we'd be set in that area. Would anyone really be upset if for example our week 1 WRs were Santonio, S. Hill, Kerley, and maybe bringing Braylon Edwards back? I'm not overjoyed, but I'm not unhappy with this group either. I really think they need to get a good TE in here though. And now it comes to the issue of QB, the most important issue. I expect our training camp to consist of a competition between Garrard, Sanchez, and Smith, with McElroy in the background but not really in the competition. And with Rex's job possibly on the line, I'm confident the best QB will start, and something tells me our week 1 starter is going to be Garrard barring any stunning surge by Sanchez or Smith. You all may think me delusional, but I don't see this team being worse than the 2011 or the 2012 squads. I see the 2013 team being similar to the 2009 team, I'm not guaranteeing playoffs, but don't be surprised to see us go 8-8 or better.
Thought he did good. I really like the Sheldon Richardson pick. I think he will be a beast for Rex on D. The trade for Ivory instantly improves the running game and was needed. Getting Geno in the 2nd was agreat Tannenbaum would have traded pick and moved up. Idzik showed great patience and got him.
