General question here: My computer will randomly "deselect" the window I have open every so often. Any idea what would be causing this? Thanks.
what do you mean? minimize it or just toss it in the background? Run that Hijackthis program I posted earlier in this thread and post the log file on here.
|Thanks Gdude , Defragging is a good idea and havn't done mine in a while. I use webroot spysweeper and anti virus which so far has been more than excellent. Well worth the sticky
Just an update from a while ago. I tried that program statjeff recommended, but it didn't work still. I poked around the net a bit, and found another defrag program (O&O) that ended up doing the trick. It took a hella long time to defrag all those files (if you remember, the analysis practically displayed a red brick of fragmented files), but at least it got the job done.
my parents have a pc...i came home for easter, and i needed to clean up their comp. i referred to this list, runs much better than before. still a shit box though. good thing i switched to a mac.
Is it weird that I can't play some DVDs back on my PC? I have a DVD burner, and it does everything it's capable of expect it only plays back about a third of my DVDs. The others, the drive won't even recognize them. I have a few DVDs I made myself and they play fine also. I don't know if this is an issue of copy-protection mumbo jumbo or if my drive is going bad. Any help?
Probably a codec issue... try downloading and installing this. Has any and every codec you will ever need. K-lite Mega Codec Pack. It uses windows media player classic. Use it to play your DVD's and let me know how it goes. http://www.free-codecs.com/K_Lite_Mega_Codec_Pack_download.htm
I get the error, "Cannot find DVD directory". I'm starting to think I might have to clean the lens, because the DVDs that don't work aren't even showing up in My Computer. The weird thing is the drive still does everything else fine. I'm going to buy some lens cleaner and see if that fixes it.
Well it turns out the drive is just dying so I contacted Dell and they're sending me a new one. In any case I'm lucky it happened right now, my warranty expires in 2 weeks.
Wow, usually the drives are tuned better than that, so that they fail two weeks after the warranty runs out. It really is defective.
So they replaced the drive with a brand new one and it's still not working... I was on the phone with their tech support for about 5 hours, lol. They're calling back tomorrow but I don't know what they can do at this point. I've tried reinstalling the OS, reinstalling all the DVD software, codecs etc, upgraded the firmware, then finally got a new drive all together, same BS. Probably a problem with the connectors, I wonder if they'd fix that...
Just a quick one on here: anyone know how I can get rid of the stupid windows non-genuine crap that keeps popping up on my computer. I reloaded windows with a window CD from dell at my house(i'm using a dell) and it keeps telling me how its not legit. Is there a file I can remove to stop that crap?
That's the thing, I'm not getting an error. The drive is behaving as if I didn't put anything in it, so there's just no action. I went to the volumes tab in the drive properties and clicked "Populate" and it gives me no info. It basically gives the same info as it would if you tried with no disc in there. I've got a few movies that load consistently but the rest give me nothing.
