So, I checked the "Tools" section of CCleaner. Any idea what the following vaguely named apps are? None of these show up on add/remove programs. Are there any I should get rid of?

I have 1G of ram, and the memory program consistantly shows me in the 666 range, even with no major apps running. Any advice?

So, I've done some web research and it seems that almost half the programs listed above are related to my printer. Is HP the AOL resource whore of printers? My systray has 3 items... Volume, AVG, FreeRAM. I have nothing in my Startup folder. Why so many damn programs?!?

TGD, I've been passing around this information to friends and family, so if you start getting spam e-mails with your own ideas included (but not properly credited to you), I apologize! I did add one other thing - downloading and running SpyBot Search and Destroy. In my experience it finds things that Ad-Aware can miss.

Jeff no big deal! I'm just happy this thread is helping people out

Spybot Search and Destroy is a great program too, much deeper scan. In alot of cases tho it seems to pick up things in Ad-Aware's quarantine folder. I will add it to the list!

yea fenwyr, i googled mostly everything on your list and it seemed to be related to your system in a non-harmful kind of way. Sorry for getting back to you so late man, I've been doing alot of running around the past few days. When you buy HP, Dell, Gateway, they make it known! Thats why your getting all that stuff in your startup. I'm going to look at it again.

I'd get rid of Yahoo! toolbar, though.

The more people spread the word, the more viruses and spyware will be written for Macs. Well, that is assuming people actually start buying enough of them for it to matter.

Don't they get imported in alphabetical order though? Meaning, I would have to reorganize em all, and that would be kind of a hastle.

What browser does everyone here use, anyway?

Yes, one of the more ridiculous myths is that Macs are somehow immune to viruses and spyware. The truth, as you note, is that no one has bothered to write viruses and spyware for Macs because there are so few in general circulation.

Kind of reminds me of a hybrid car I worked on a year ago, in a roundabout way. So much cheaper on fuel and so much more envirnmentally safe... until you crash into something. Then good luck finding parts that aren't priced like they're made from pure platinum.
