Jets need to have a consistently winning record. That way, other teams seek your players because they hope a "winning attitude" comes with the player. Jets have been winning, but not consistently year to year. Next, you need to be consistently successful with your 2nd day picks. Again, that would allow the Jets to let JAG vets go because there is a younger player ready to assume more playing time. It also keeps your salary cap in line. Mangini as coach appears likely to instill the "win consistently" mentality in his players. He also knows how to mask a player's weaknesses. This means other teams overrate your players. Tannenbaum as GM seems ready to draft consistently. The only "likely" bust from last year is Schlegel and even for him, the jury is still out. Bradway had some very good 2nd day picks, but he was not consistent. If we have another draft as effective as last year's, we are on the way to being a team with sought after FA's. With the steady loss of FA's, we gain a steady supply of compensatory picks. It's a virtuous circle. Pittsburgh did this for years.
Don't forget Titus Adams...that's a bust! Pociask (sp?) hasn't done anything yet...so Schlegel is at least the third worst...and I think we may have something up our sleeves using him.
and i know this, man...all i was saying is that there are others that are bigger (potential) busts than schlegel. And we did just sign a FB, so where does that leave him now?
