Oohh, I like that. Scott is one of those guys that's hanging out in the middle of the RB pack looking for a chance to rise up. He, Shane Vereen, Delone Carter, Jordan Todman, and some others are all quality backs that just need some pub.
In case you're serious... no, I meant, except for the fact they ran really well how do they project as NFL WRs? Lockette is pretty big... too bad he plays or an unknown college... as for Gates, Abilene Christian doesn't seem to be the worst program in the world for WRs and he looked pretty competent out there for the few drills I've seen. In case you're joking... I know, but the 40 time means a lot more for a WR than a RB and I didn't get to see the other RB drills so I have no opinion on the guy. Plus they said he fumbled 19 times in two years... wow... I mean, ok technique is coachable but 19!?!?
It would be great to see Jones play with Bradford though... too bad he's probably going to end up in that Washington Redskins mess... but maybe Baldwin proves to be so much of a head-case he'll drop to the Rams in round 2... Other interesting combine numbers: RB: Roy Helu (had him in my mock some time ago) (Nebraska; 6'0" - 219lbs - 10 inch something hands): 4.42 40yd dash (6th best) Best 20 and 60 yd shuttle 2nd best 3 cone drill 8th best vertical jump 10th best long jump 2 WRs I (we?) really like for the later rounds... Maehl (thank you Mr. E) and Sanzenbacher (thank you WW) were best and second best on the 3 cone drill and the 60yd shuttle. Also they were 2nd and 3rd best on the 20yd shuttle (beaten by Pettis, another TGG favorite). I'm really hoping Sanzenbacher falls to us in the 4th...
Murray's very similar to McKnight. If the Jets bring in a new back, it should be another power runner. Wisconsin's John Clay killed his draft stock by running poorly today. I still he's going to be a hell of a back in a committee. I wouldn't mind using a sixth or seventh round pick on him if there's a freefall.
After looking at all the running back combine numbers today, there are legitimately (at least) 20 running backs in this draft that I think could be quality players in the NFL. People will knock the lack of a truly elite talent at the position, but I've never seen depth like this. This is honestly the best year to grab a compliment back late in the draft, because there's going to be a ton of quality options to choose from as we get into Day 3.
I agree entirely, their are a lot of good running backs. They all were productive in college. It's true their isnt one elite guy, but their are still plenty of guys who should be productive at the next level
I'd love to see the Jets grab someone like LSU's Stevan Ridley, Hawaii's Alex Green, or USC's Allen Bradford in the later rounds. Ridley will probably get taken around the third, but the other two might be available after the fourth just because the RB class is so deep. ...and even though he ran poorly today, John Clay would still be a solid pick up late.
I'm telling you, perfect true backup to Greene, but at the same time is a good passcatcher. He's a big back, so he can taking the beating if Greene went down for an extended period of time. And for more important reasons, it would truly be a "Gang Green" backfield EDIT: Damn, that's what I get for looking for a picture for 15 minutes
There's an average of 17 RBs taken in the draft over the last 5 years, I cannot see almost half of these guys not even getting picked in the draft: Mark Ingram, Alabama* Mikel Leshoure, Illinois* Ryan Williams, Virginia Tech** DeMarco Murray, Oklahoma Jordan Todman, UConn* Shane Vereen, California* Bilal Powell, Louisville Delone Carter, Syracuse Daniel Thomas, Kansas State Kendall Hunter, OK State Da’Rel Scott, Maryland Dion Lewis, Pittsburgh** Roy Helu, Nebraska Damien Berry, Miami Stevan Ridley, LSU* Noel Devine, West Virginia John Clay, Wisconsin* Jacquizz Rodgers, Oregon State* Taiwan Jones, Eastern Washington* Derrick Locke, Kentucky Darren Evans, Virginia Tech* Mario Fannin, Auburn Allen Bradford, USC Alex Green, Hawaii Jamie Harper, Clemson* Evan Royster, Penn State Anthony Allen, Georgia Tech Shaun Draughn, North Carolina Vai Taua, Nevada Brandon Saine, Ohio State
