This is why Coles should have been unloaded after 06 when his value was at its peak. When Harris was drafted to replace Vilma and Vilma was healthy and there were several teams in desperate need for an elite 4/3 ML we hung on to him without an extension. This FO is not getting value by either locking guys up early or unloading them at peak value when they have no intention of paying them.

If coles isn't back then it's a mistake, I'm still waiting on the jets FO to resign him.

We had no reason to trade Coles, and it's not like we could have expected of equal value back.

I'm not sure about the Vilma situation...I remember the Portis rumor and I heard that Rogers was seriously discussed last offseason...I do think they should have unloaded him but maybe they just didn't think they were getting good value in the short and long term? Who knows...but this does look like a mistake. Of course mistakes by this regime get turned into "the sky is falling" threads so...well that sucks.

We did have reason to trade Coles, we could have got top value for him after 06 even though he had concussions at the end of the year and it was highly predictable he would start declining. Now he is calling your hero a liar in the press and has very little real value after a mediocre year and everyone knows he wants to get paid huge bucks.

I think you're whistling Dixie if you think people want to trade for damaged goods. Coles' concussions would have been used against his cost mercilessly by any team trying to get him. We would have been at a decided disadvantage.

But this is just a bunch of negative surmising. I like Coles as a NYJ -- get him a line that pass blocks AND run blocks so he has time to do his stuff with the QB.

Then he's fine. We'll all be a lot better with an OL pulling its weight.

I love coles and i think we should take care of him as well. he has been a soldier for us and done everything we ask but we don't know both sides to the story here . what do we know really about this whole ordeal. seriouly who knows what is going on but I hope someone has the right brains and heart to make the right decision.

I was watching NFL network today and Schefter said don't be suprised if the Cowboys trade one of their first rounders for a wide receiver to match with TO. I don't think Coles could fetch a first rounder, but he is a pretty damn good receiver, he's tough as nails and would complement TO pretty well. I wonder what Dallas would give up for him?

If I'm a veteran on this team that wasn't brought in by Mangini, I wouldn't feel comfortable.

This article is a bunch of BS. Coles has TWO years left on his contract and the Jets have offered to guarantee that money. But when Coles whines that he should be rewarded with a bigger longer contract the Jets FO is made out as the ones not acting in good faith? That is ridiculous. Trade Coles for what we can get. With his injury history he is unlikely to even last the two years anyway. Unreal.

The problem is not the player, it's the coach. Manweenie came to the Jets and insisted on a system that did not fit the players he had to coach.

Maybe Manweenie will be a good coach somewhere, someday? But it was a huge mistake for Mr. Johnson & Johnson to hire a guy like this--who had no head coaching experience--for a New York (center of the media universe) team. If the Jets do not get off to a great start early in the 2008 season, the calls will be coming down fast and furious to fire Manweenie.

Let's face it--it will be a long time before the NY Jets win anything with the ownership we have in place. (Unless we get very lucky!)
