Rationalization by Coles? He's giving a reason why he's off to a slow start.. I think that's fair enough.

So first he was whining, now he's talking smack?

So he needed some time away from reporters to move on after his breakup with Chad. Why is everyone bitching about him all of a sudden.. where is this "whining" in the article? (serious)

Not the pass that got the PI call. You're confusing what play I was talking about. The pass that bounced right off Coles' knee was a little low, but it was very catchable. It popped off his knee and he whiffed on it.

No, I know exactly what play you're talking about and it should have been called pass interference IMO.

I'm getting pretty tired of just hearing how he hasn't got a good raport with Coles and how he had a immediate understanding with Pennington. If i was him i would just stick to the generic answears:

"its hard for any player to get a raport with a new Qb, it's a work in progress but it will come"

    Something along those lines.

I'm sure that exact quote would be broken down and analyzed extensively.

"Coles is such a bitch, no one else is whining about building a new raport. I don't want to hear about how hard he has to work - wah wah wah. All he cares about is himself. Trade him to Miami."

Point being, it doesn't matter what he says, people will try and figure out a way it could possibly be negative and be cock sure that's what he meant by it.

he's just bitter because he's not a captain anymore, so he thinks the players and the coach's don't want him around anymore, imo.

You think he misses Penny now, wait until he has to catch a Favre pass in cold weather.

I don't think that's a fair knock on Coles. You look at any WR on the Jets the last few years and they all have relatively low TD numbers. When you don't get the ball in stride it makes it tough to stop, catch, and then start again and grab a big play. That was always my biggest gripe with Chad....No matter what, and save for the few oddities, he NEVER hit guys in stride when they had beat their man. I can only really remember Moss getting one in the SD game.

Trade Coles? No...But he shouldn't be wagging his mouth like he is. The Jets did him a solid by guaranteed money for the last 2 years. He had his tampon in a bunch over his contract prior to the season, and before Chad got sent packing. So we can't say that he has been a happy camper since March let alone now that Cotch has worked some chemistry up with Favre.

I noted his comment on why he was silent, and it sounded like a great reason. But when you go from making that much sense, to "If I fit in, I do, and if not, I won't stress" it shows a huge leap in logic. No?

First of all I'm almost positive those weren't his exact words. Secondly, I fail to see how him making a comment like that has anything to do with him staying silent for the stated reasons. Maybe I'm missing something. Please read the following article if you haven't.

    http://www.newyorkjets.com/blog/posts/682-coles-loosening-up-on-and-off-the-field

I really wish he would just stop talking to the media all together so that people would stop over analyzing his comments in search of possible negativity. My guess is that his comment was intended to take the spotlight off him and put it back on the team in an effort to be a team first guy. That's only my assumption though.

I didn't put that in here because that is the same company line that everyone sticks with. But I found it difficult to believe he buys his own brand of BS after "If I fit in, I do, and if I don't, I'm not gonna get stressed". Kind of hard to follow that up (along with some of his other quotes) with "It's a team, the team wins and it doesn't matter who it is stepping up". Sorry, if anything, Coles should have a high hard one because he could have a monster year with someone flinging the ball like Brett.

His exact wording is in my original post. Yes, I shortened it when I repeated it, but his EXACT WORDS (unless Hutch didn't write it correctly, or the printer screwed it up) was ]"I've had to relearn all over again, and adjust. It's about Brett and him doing what it is he does. If I fit in the plans, then I fit in. If not, I'm not really stressing."

I fail to see how that can be seen in too many different ways.

Fair enough, but we have no idea what question was asked. Hutch doesn't put that in the article.

Is it possible that he asked something like this?
"You only caught one pass on Sunday, are you worried that you don't fit in the plans of the offense this season as much as in the past?"

We don't know what he was asked. If he was asked in that way, it's possible that his answer was intended to mean that as long as the team is winning he's not concerned about how much he fits in the plans in terms of catching passes. He's gone on record as saying it doesn't matter if he has 100 yards receiving so long as he's out there lining up he's making an impact (something to this effect).

Coles is a bum. If he doesn't perform this year it'd be in our best interest to part ways. He's never lived up to any of his 12 different contracts he's demanded.

? Laveranues Coles gave a candid interview in front of his locker, most of it concerning his on-the-field relationship with Brett Favre. ?I don?t have a feel for him,? Coles said. Clearly, Coles still wishes Chad Pennington were the quarterback. I reminded Coles that he worked with Pennington for six years, and that it would be unrealistic to have the same rapport with Favre this quickly. But he didn?t seem to buy that theory. ?Me and Chad had it the first day,? he said. Hmmm.

Still think he is being misinterpreted? This is from Cimini at the Daily News...Looks like Hutch wasn't actually twisting his words...
