I don't deny that Hutch is stoking the fire on this one. Of course they go to Coles when they want a good spinnable quote, we know that. It just seems that this isn't his usual "Camp is hard" or "I'm tired" stuff. By both his words and his and other's actions, he as not been the fighter or leader that lead me to have his back for all these years, since Chad left. I really hope his feelings have been blown out of proportion, because we have the chance to do something special this year. Maybe once the winning bug hits him, he'll fall in line (ala Randy Moss). He seems like that kind of guy:up:
I think it's disingenuous to imply that the perception of Coles' attitude is simply an invention of the media. The guy was messed up at a young age by a sick fuck and he's obviously got some issues. He's had a bad attitude and been a malcontent his whole career though and it hasn't seemed to effect his play which is all I really care about. I do agree with you though that people make way too much out of the stuff he says, it's not like it's anything new. Maybe in previous years he wasn't grumbling about the QB because his best friend Chad was here but it's always been something with him.
Yes, but I read or heard (maybe it was Favre's own press conference the other day?) in which he said that he thought Coles was going to turn sooner and cut the angle, so he threw the ball to where he thought or expected him to be, ala Donald Driver or whatever. Instead, Coles ran a more shallow angle to the goal line and the ball was short and to the left and at his knees. This is all timing and getting to know the QB and vice-versa. He didn't make the catch... just let it go and go back the the huddle and communicate with your QB about it. Then, after the game, you go work it out in practice the following week. But you don't go to Mangini and whine like a school girl.
True. If it weren't for his past whinings, we wouldn't even be reading into these comments this way. But knowing Coles' propensity for this stuff, it's hard to not take it the way it appears. Had the comments come from Stuckey or Cotchery, we wouldn't even be having this discussion. It sounds like Mangini no longer feels the need to suck up to this guy and kiss his ass whenever he bitches. The Jets are in the driver's seat now with some respectable, up-and-coming WRs in the wings, so he rightfully told Coles to basically STFU this time and go get used to Brett Favre's passes. I'm so down with that....
I wasn't talking about the goal line play. Once again, I don't give a shit about what he says or doesn't say off the field. So long as he keeps producing, who cares? I assume that once he builds chemistry with Fahvra he'll begin producing at a high level. It's going to take a little while. I also fail to see where he is whining to mangini. Holy crap people.
Are you guys kidding me? Trade him? Wtf is wrong with you guys? Ok yes he is a "whiney bitch" even though these comments don't come off as whiney bitch at all. The guy doesn't disrupt the team at all, he is a leader of this team and his teammates and coaches love him, not to mention he comes to play every Sunday and most Sundays he plays pretty darn well. You guys are crazy!
exactly, then to make it worse, go tell the media that you went to Mangini and whined like a school girl. There some degree of truth to the media maybe taking some liberties with his quotes, but again that's Cole's own fault because of the the "silent treatment" everyone can assume that he was sad, pissed or whatever when he wasn't talking...so of course the media is salivating at the prospect of what he might say when he does talk. But I'm certainly not calling for a trade or anything  just go out and catch some balls
OK so let me try to reenact their conversation about the play calling: <LC> Hi Coach, how're things going? <EM> Great son, how are you today? <LC> Oh I'm great. I just wanted to clarify something in the playbook. I wasn't sure if I was running the right route on this because Brett was saying it was something else. Now I know it's not Brett screwing up, so I wanted to make sure. Can I please stay for some extra credit and learn it the way you want? <EM> Just do what Brett says. <LC> OK Great coach! Thanks, that really makes things easier for me. NOT. Lets get the actual version: <LC> Coach wtf, the playbook says one thing and Brett's changing the plays. Cotch is getting the calls and.. <EM> Go poke yourself in the fucking eye already. When Brett says move you get on your feet and move you little bitch-stick.
With Chad going to Miami, you think a "friend" would realize that he is actually wanted there. Trade Coles to Miami too. You would think a grown man can handle it if his friend is not on the same team. I got over stuff like that when I was 10. This guy bitches and moans too much for a guy that scores 5 TD's a year. I bet if you ask someone in 20 other NFL cities, they could not even tell you who Coles plays for. The only negative stuff this whole season thus far has only come from him. Even Mangini always has a friggin smile on his face every time someone even mentions Favre.
I always loved Coles on the field but thought he was pretty much a total mercinary who really doesn't care about the team. After Zach Thomas lit him up 2 years ago I would have traded him. I was shocked they guaranteed the next 2 years on his contract.
Qualify "you guys" please. I ain't one of them. Trading him is WAY overreacting. Having said that, he's still a little whiner. Mangini handled it the right way byu diplomatically and tactfully basically telling him to go STFU and go do what Favre wants you to do. And oh, by the way, do it with a smile on your face for a fucking change!
I am not concerned what so ever. I believe If the dolphins keep chad for another year , you can add the name of laveranues Cole's to the roster on day one. Unless there's something IN his contract that says he cant go ( I Think they guaranteed his the 11 mill whether he's a Jet or not) he will jump ship again. Just my belief.
"I've been in the offense, but I'm trying to adjust to exactly what they want. Brett wants to run things one way, then I look in the playbook and it says something different. Talking with coach (Mangini) he says whatever Brett feels like he wants to do, just do it. again, I'm obvioulsy guessing and possibly twisitng LC's words.....but that sounds a lot to me like...... "Coach, I don't know what the hell Brett's doing out here.....what am i supposed to do??"
So he asked the coach about why he wasn't on the same page and got an answer. I fail to see the whining here.
To tell you the truth, I was too. I think we did it before we were confident we could replenish our receiver corps. Stuckey had a good camp and Cotchery is solid as hell. When Clowney comes back we're one good draft pick away from signing a legitimate TO-type gamebreaker and rounding it out. If Coles was pulling that crap this year, I don't think Tanny gives him the guarantee. He's one tackle away from riding the bench and going on IR.
