enough is enough with Coles. I'm one of his biggest fans, but seriously...this is getting a bit ridiculous.
Coles is Coles. Nothing has changed here, yet everyone gets their ass hairs out of whack. So long as it produces on the field I could care less about his whiney-bitchy moments.
WTF did he SAY that was so wrong? Seriously. Take out any and all assumptions any of you are making about how he "must" have meant it, and read exactly what he said. There is nothing there that isn't okay. So it's a problem for Jets fans that Coles is used to running in offenses where the play called in from the sideline is the one that actually occurs? You know, rather than the one where Brett points at spots on his palm and says "Hey, you take 10 steps, turn, and the ball will be there". Wow, screw him for being at a disadvantage when entering a completely different system that he's only had a week of practice in. What an asshole he is. Umm, so it's wrong for him to say "Hey, I'll play the best I can, and if that's good enough for the team, cool, if not, then what can I do?" Seriously. If you stop inferring based on the media's spin, this isn't really hard to understand. It doesn't say he pulled Mangini aside to complain and the coach told him to do what he's told. If anything, it looks like it came up in conversation and Mangini probably shrugged and said "Hey, whatever. Brett can change the plays as he sees fit. As long as we win!" Like he said to the media just the other day. So basically, since someone decided to determine that Coles implied that Chad would have been as successful as Favre, it must be true? Even though what Coles said was absolutely correct? You know, that a solid rushing attack will make any QB better? Hell, he didn't even say Chad's frigging name! --------------------- But people are sitting here saying "Trade Coles"? AYFKM??? Jets fans are stupid.
Talk about overreacting.......How is this dividing the team up? He made a simple statement about not having chemistry with a new quarterback and the fact that he has catching up to do to get used to the way Favre plays. Everyone run away the sky is apparently falling!
I dunno Alio....his comments come across as whiney to me....like he's already making excuses if he doesn't produce. Like others have said, I don't see Cotch saying anything like this. Just shut up and play. This guy's supposed to be a team leader, he should act like one. He should just say, "there will be an adjustment period" and leave it at that
The reality of the situation is Cotchery is the best receiver on the team and everybody will see it this year. Chad was his boy and he knew he would get the ball. Farve has no allegiances and the ball will go to the best player on the field and that will be Cotch. We should have traded that w**ny b**ch before the season started. Maybe Miami will take him. Chansi will prob be the number two receiver by years end anyway.
Alio, I'm just the messenger, and added what I thought. I don't know why you would take such offense to me just typing out exact quotes from the article. I don't know how you can spin someones exact wording, unless there is the word lipstick involved...hmy: To me, it came across as a very me first kind of thing. When a player says something like 'If I fit in, I fit in, and if I don't I won't stress' is a bad thing...I would like to think if I didn't fit, I'd find a way to. Especially since I'd be getting a big fat paycheck. it sounds like being cavalier about performing and being an asset, especially since he just had the team guarantee the next 2 years on his contract. I thought Coles' comment after the Phins game was a great one...He said he didn't want to say something that would be seen as either Pro Chad/Anti Favre, or Pro Favre/Anti Chad...But to say that, and then go into how not getting on the same page isn't a priority is slightly worrysome, especially as he is thought of as the first WR on the depth chart.
There is nothing there that isn't OK, but certainly not captain quotes though. No kidding it's a disadvantage, for Coles and everybody else on the team...not just Coles, but he is the only one complaining. Sounds more like an ultimatum. What is with that "if it's good enough for the team" crap? Petulant nonsense. Sounds more like, "I mentioned to the coach that Brett is changing things, and he told me that he can do what he wants...he's the field general" How about just talking about how the team has improved overall. Chad is as implied as a pig with lipstick. --------------------- I am not saying to trade Coles. And I'm not stupid. However, there IS a reason he lost his captainship...and the players have spoken.
Okay, let's just take a look at this rationally. Coles has a "reputation" with Jets fans of being a "whiny little bitch". And it's not just here on the TGG board. I talk to other Jets fans I know, and they think the same thing. And it's always based on a newspaper article, written to talk about how much of a whiny little bitch he is. Has anyone ever actually heard him make these comments? I sure haven't. I'd love to actually hear him say these things, rather than rely on someone interpreting what Coles "means" when he says something. Again, I say read exactly what the quotes say, without adding your own opinions on it, or what the writer claims he "meant". As is always the case with Coles, his words are interpreted, and he's made out as a cancer. It couldn't have anything to do with the fact that Jets fans eat this shit up, could it? I mean, it couldn't be that in some zany scheme to turn a profit, the media might twist Coles' words to sound a lot less innocent than they are, right? As we all know, journalistic integrity is the rule, not the exception. What amazes me even more is the people sitting there saying he either should have said something short, or nothing at all. Yet just a week ago, people were screaming that his silence spoke louder than words, and that it was saying he was unhappy. I said it last week, I'll say it again. Coles is damned if he speaks, damned if he doesn't. Had he said "There will be an adjustment period", there would be 40 posts right now about how "He's saying that if his buddy Chad were still here, he would be fine, and wouldn't have to work so hard to adjust". Come on. Let's be honest here. Coles can't say anything right, and he can't not say anything at all. Strangely enough, with the supposed "big mouth and bad attitude" he has, he's never reprimanded by Mangini, who enforces the "sit down, shut up" rule pretty hard. Wonder why that is...
I'm not one on here saying we should trade Coles. In my 1st post I said the difference between now and then (w/ Chad) is that now he has to be on the lookout for a broken up cause anything is possible. If he hasn't built chemistry then he should've said he's still in the early stages of adjusting, but is excited about the playbook is now wide open for anything to happen. The End. The fact that he's running to the coach to tell him that Brett Favre isn't running the plays drawn up is ridiculous. He should instead be going to Brett and saying, "Listen, if the corner blitzes and u need a 2 yard slant, we'll do this, but if you need a 5 yd slant, we should do that". I find that to be more constructive and productive overall than whiney about drawn up plays. I still don't see why he has to bring up how it WAS with his old QB to what it IS now when everyone knows it's a process. This is just dumb. Chad is in a Phins uniform now. What Coles and Chad had then will not contribute what our offense is doing now. The fans are on board that the Chad era is history. Apparently, he's not.
Coles just got one of the top five Qb's to ever step on a Football field to throw him the ball. The only thing that should be coming out of his mouth is Im so happy that we got Brett. That is of course if he wants to win. Chad is his boy but there is no comparison. Period!
the problem here is that he consistently draws attention to himself either via "Media Boycotts" or saying a bit too much. This isn't his first time around the block here..but he always acts like it is. I don't have a problem with him being sort of the Billy Wagner of the Jets......you know the good sound bite guy...but his quotes , to me, often reveal that he's more worried about his own performance than that of the teams. It's interpreation for sure....and many of us can be waaay off.... but that's what these threads are for, interpretation... if we all agreed it would be awfully boring
I didn't mean to imply you were the one doing the spinning. I am explicitly saying that I firmly believe the spin is coming from the article's author. As for the "won't stress" comment, it's up to interpretation. Unless you actually heard him say it, and watched his mannerisms as he said it, you have no idea whether he was saying "I'm not at all worried, I know I'll adjust" or "Whatever, if I don't adjust, I'll go play with my pal where it's warm". Assuming he lost his captainship because he's a cancer is a pretty big stretch. Of course, you could be absolutely right. Then again, it could have a lot to do with Brett Favre being with the team a week and starting a preseason game, while Coles didn't even hit the field until 2 days before camp broke. As I've said, everything is subject to interpretation, and the people writing this stuff have no reason not to fuel the fire against Coles. They may as well stoke the fires that were already burning. Coles has a rep as a bitch. Why try to put that on Cotchery when Coles is right there?
Yeah, I pretty much agree with this. I'm particularly annoyed that he would mention to Mangini that he's having a problem with Favre's spontaneous passes. But kudos to Mangini for tactfully telling him the STFU and it's Favre's show. I don't hear Cotchery running to coach and bellyaching. Coles needs to know that there is no set script. Go out and run your route and even if you know you're not supposed to be the intended target according to the book, stay in the fucking play anyway and get yourself turned around, because the ball just may be coming at you at 50 MPH! This guy is just too used to Checkdown Chad's style (and the problem has been, so has every fucking defense we've played against).
Yeah it bounced right off his knee as the defender was draped all over him and grabbing one of his arms. Could he have caught it, yes, but to say it was a drop is a bit of a stretch. It has to hit you in the hands to be a drop doesn't it? Or are receivers catching balls with there knees now?
ughhh....this guy has to go...he'd rather lose with Chad than bond with Favre.....jesus christ, just go out there and make plays!!! Stop the bloody crying!!
