Well, I'm really happy with this. If they had done more than what they did for Coles after doing nothing for Kendall it wouldn't have looked good at all and would have set a dangerous precedent.
The Kendall and the Coles situations are completely different IMHO. Coles, besides his tour in Washington, has been a life-long Jet. People have blown his comments to the media way out of proportion. Who cares if a guy complains about off season workout, training camp, etc. Everyone that has played any sport (but especially football) knows that the preseason workouts are incredibly annoying as hell. If you don't complain about them, you are not human or mentally insane. The guys leaves everything on the field. This is a good deal for both sides. Coles gets guaranteed money and the Jets don't have to commit long term to a guy that has probably peaked in terms of production. That being said, I hope Coles is a Jet the rest of his career. On the other hand you have Kendall who got cut from two NFL teams for being more loyal to the NFLPA then to his team. Good player but not a person, if I was running the team, that I would want on roster.
LC was shown the tests. He is 60% of the way there. Maybe he thought he was only 30% of the way there. But, the tests say otherwise. So the deal is put thusly: If you progress too quickly, you're covered. If you don't progress so quickly, then, go for it. You know that LC is a very smart man.
i have to agree with you about us pulling off a surprise, on draft day. just got a feeling we're gonna wind up with a #1 and a player. possibly with the lions and roy williams.
I saw this in another thread our 1st for the Lions 1st and Williams. It seems pretty far out there and very unrealistic. Sounds like Madden play to me.
Good move, we should see how Coles does next season. If he does well, extend it in the next off-season if he continues to be injury prone or he doesn't post good numbers then trade him and look for a replacement.
On a side note, if this means that he'll be looking to retire in 2 years, we should absolutely draft some depth in the coming draft.
ive been a big fan of jumping on limas sweed at 6 if longs, mcfadden, and gholston are gone. everyone blah blahs about how not 1 reciever is worth a 1st this yr. i think sweed is worth taking in spots 10-20 he'll be had. but since trading out of that isnt possible and if nobody is a fan of doing that wed be more likely to do for rodgers cromartie or mckelvin at 6 . Early Doucet's stock has dropped due to a slower than expected 40 time. the guys a beast on film though had a late 1st grade but with a slow 40 and at only 6 ft 205 people only let those 40's go if your 6 ft 4 plus. anyways hes a quality player who will prolly be there in the 2nd. i definitely believe WR needs to be addressed within the first 3 rds though i was talking about it last yr. anyways we are in better shape than most thing. and with mangini and tanny at the helm who knows what to expect.
Agreed 100%. I love Sweed and although I'm not sure about pulling the trigger at #6, if we could somehow manage to trade down into the early teens with a DT-needy team if Ellis and/or Dorsey are sitting at #6, I absolutely take him. If we can't do that, I'm a fan of one of Devin Thomas (doubtful he's there), James Hardy (same), Early Doucet, or Mario Manningham in the 2nd (in that order). If there's someone like Groves, Dre Moore, or Kentwan Balmer who falls to #36 that we can't pass up, then I go Adarius Bowman or Marcus Monk in the 4th. Our current WR depth is kind of hard to figure out because Coles is one hard hit away from another concussion, Stuckey is an unkown, and Smith is still developing and we have no idea what he'll bring next season. It would only help to get some insurance in case Coles goes down and this is a relatively deep WR class.
