Except you're wrong and if the 49ers do end up firing him he will be free to do whatever the hell he pleases. The only thing the 49ers would own is the right to pay him if he doesn't take another job. I think the 9ers will end up firing him. The time to trade him was last year before everyone and their mother knew he was on his way out.
Actually in rereading the rules it depends on how the Head Coaches contract is written as to whether or not they can go to another head coaching job while still under contract with their former club. If I'm wrong then everyone reporting it is wrong as well, I haven't read one article that says if Harbaugh is let go that he will be free to sign wherever he wants. Now, I'm willing to bet since no one is reporting he'll be free to go where he wants if he's fired that it's probably the case that he isn't. I could be wrong it would be fine with me if I am wrong. But when every report says otherwise, including NFL reps.....
Ironically enough...we could benefit from being the most fucked up organization in all of football!!! Just think about it...if the only way Harbaugh gets out of San Francisco is by trade...if I'm a 49'er exec what better way to "screw" Harbaugh than to send him to the freak show that is the NY Jets! LOL!!!! Hey, it could happen...and more realistic than most might think!
Well i don't know what you're reading but just like every other coach in NFL history, if they are fired they are free to pursue any other job they want. I don't see how Harbaugh won't be fired.
Like I said, I'll be happy if I'm wrong, though it won't matter if I am because I suspect he'll just go to the Raiders anyway. I'm not an expert on what coaches contracts are, just saying what's being reported.
Idk. How did guys like Andy Reid, Bill Parcells, Bill Bellicheck do it? My point is that i'd bring him here at all costs. We dont even know if he wants to be the GM or anything.
I'd be willing to let him run the team. He has had good success in San Fran with 2 different QBs. The main reason I'm hesitant on Harbaugh is how much is it going to cost to get him. The Jets aren't in the same position the Bucs were when they traded for Gruden.
If the next "guy" is two hires away, then tell Woody Johnson to hire a new head coach and then fire him a week later.
You know, you bring up a good point. If Woody continues to be the one hiring HC's (instead of empowering a GM), it could be more that two hires away.
I'd go one further than that, if Woody keeps this up, none of us over the age of 40 will live long enough to see another Jets Super Bowl.
When you consider that even Jim Irsay sobered up long enough to put the right people in place to build a winner, I continue to believe that someday......
what HC has he hired? and can we really say post Groh a bad HC has been hired? maybe Mangini but I still think he has all the tools to be a really good HC.
Speaking to the current situation of the HC (and even the OC) not necessarily being the choosing of the GM. The next HC should be chosen by the GM (either new or current), and not instilled by the owner. Until a GM is given full autonomy, is it difficult to fairly judge the job that person has done.
Anything is an improvement over the status quo. Rex and Idzik are in way over their heads--Can't do much worse than 2-11.
Well I've not found any confirmation through any sources that state what I've read on multiple reporting sites is wrong, so no, no cartwheels at this time. Okay to be honest there won't be cartwheels later if I am wrong, at my age I'd wind up in the ER.
Okay here's an article that best describes the situation with the 49er's and Harbaugh and whether or not Harbaugh is free to sign with another team or not, and it all depends on what you mean by the words 'fired' and how the paperwork is handled. Harbaugh has one more year left on his contract after this year, the 49ers can 'fire' him as headcoach but retain his rights within the organization, they don't have to put him in any role with the team but they can effectively block him from signing with any other team is what the article infers. They could also 'fire' him in the traditional sense in which they also release the contract, though they still have to pay him the full amount due either way and management is under no obligation to release him from his contract fully, and frankly very little incentive to do so, he has potential value to them through which they can 'recoup' money..they could also do it out of spite to keep him out of football for a year. That is assuming that the other articles, and this one, are correct. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...-kelly-early-coaching-gossip-is-getting-silly Now granted that report that I chose is from the bleacherreport, not one of my favorite sites, but mostly because I don't agree with their general observations, when it comes to statistical and actual hard factual information they are usually correct however. Most coaches when they're fired don't have trade value so when they're fired they're released from the contract as well. And it may well be that the 49ers 'do the right thing' by Harbaugh and fire him and release him. Then again we may have a Steinbrenner and Martin thing where the two don't get along but he manages out his contract anyway (though George did fire Martin a time or two ). But who knows how it will turn out...but it's not as cut and dry simple as some would like to believe....
