I just hate that it seems like the coaching staff feels that the answer to defending the pass is putting more people in coverage and rushing 3 or 4 guys instead of going after the quarterback. I don't pay attention to how many are rushing on each and every play but i seem to notice that when we do get beat especially on 3rd and longs its with a conservative pass rush. If our LB's are no good in coverage why not let them rush more?
This is exactly what is inexcusable. It tells me that Mangini is lazy and unmotivated to do what it takes to beat everybody on the schedule. He can get the team fired up for a tough opponent, but then it goes back to sleep against one that should not pose a real challenge. Mangini's coaching skills at this point are clearly worse than Herm Edward's were during his tenure in NY. Herm never had the talent on the team that Mangini has this year from top to bottom. There are no holes (for this year) on the current roster, no slots where the Jets are starting a clearly bad player. And yet the Jets consistently play to the level of the opposition and even very good players, like Jerrico Cotchery and Kerry Rhodes go to sleep at key points in the game and cause problems for the rest of the team. This is not going to go away. Mangini really is not a good NFL coach and nothing that we've seen over the last couple of years suggests that he's going to develope into one any time soon.
Favre's yards per attempt number is just below his career number, so nothing is alarming there. His yards per completion number, on the other hand, is a career low. _____________________ Worst yards per completion numbers through 12 games: Bengals, 8.6 Jets, 10.1 Buccaneers, 10.1 Colts, 10.5 Best yards per completion numbers through 12 games: Falcons, 12.9 49ers, 12.9 Panthers, 12.8 Chargers, 12.7 _____________________ (through 12 games) Brett Favre yards per attempt- 6.9 yards per completion- 10.1 (career low) Chad Pennington YPA- 7.9 (career high) YPC- 12.1 (career high) Aaron Rodgers YPA- 7.2 YPC- 11.3 I'm not getting it into now because I need to go to sleep, but YPA is a more meaningful statistic than YPC. Also, YPA is arguably the most important stat for quarterbacks. Either way, Favre is below both his replacement in Green Bay and the guy he replaced with the Jets.
Thanks Cakes- If someone did not know it before, this data proves it is not BF's skills but rather, the offensive system is terrible.
