RE Your list (And assuming Idzik is here to stay.) Gruden - No way - he got Idzik fired at Tampa Bay. Cowher - If we wanted Cowher, we should have hired KHANNNNNNN, not Idzik. That was his guy to do the paperwork at Pittsburgh. Nick Saban - No chance in hell I'd want him near my team. Why not Tony Dungy? He and Idzik were buds at Tampa Bay. Or people may laugh but I say bring in Marvin Lewis as HC and Jay Gruden for the offense. I think they are building a good thing with the Bengals. I have no idea about their availability and it goes without saying why leave to go work for Woody? But you asked for people who would be better than Rex. Heck that's a long list but I thought I'd indulge and give examples.
Mike Zimmer is 57. If the Jets are going to have a head coach over 50 next year it should be the guy they've already got.
Coughlin didn't win a playoff game his first 3 seasons and only had 1 winning season. Parcells missed the playoffs in '87 and '88 then went one and done in '89 Cowher went 3 straight playoffless seasons from 1998-2000, wouldn't win a SB until 2005 Pete Carroll has been fired TWICE Bill Belichick was fired once Gary Kubiak missed the playoffs his first 5 seasons. Shanahan won 11 games total his first 2 years in DC coming off missing the playoffs 3 straight years to end his time in Denver Payton didn't have a winning record 2 of his first 3 years(after making title game in rookie year). Fisher went 4+ seasons w/o making the playoffs in Ten to start his career.
Fair point but I think if the right person suits the qualities that are being sought after then you hire that individual despite the age. I wanted the Dolphins to hire him or Jay Gruden last year before they got Philbin
Coaching options for 2014. Rex Ryan. Barring a disaster season, that's what happens. Hilarious that the season hasn't started yet and people are already expecting massive losses and Rex to get fired. Despite looking MUCH better now than we did last year at this time. Just sayin.
Wasn't there a poll about this a week ago where something like 80% of the people on this board want Rex to be extended? Only idiots would want a change at coach. Rex, is a master of defense, just limit his Offensive decisions. Let Morningwhig and Idzik evaluate offensive talent and build something that can move the chains to keep Rex's beast squad off the field and... ...HUNGRY FOR A GOD DAMN SNACK!
if rex is fired, and by no means want that to happen, i agree with a previous post that we should look to the offensive side for a replacement. there is no other defensive coach that will bring what rex brings to the table
Stop being so sensitive. Rex will most likely be fired. This isnt a FIRE REX! thread. It's a we know its probably going to happen thread so lets start brainstorming. Rex lost it in a preseason presser. That's not a guy who's going to keep his job.
