Fair enough. I guess I'm just not sure that Clowney is going to even be a good deep receiver. I trust that the coaching staff who sees him every day in practice would play him if he were ready to be a good deep threat who could reallly add something to the offense. I could be wrong but I just think the two long TD catches he had in preseason are not necessarily indicative of a guy who can be a consistent deep threat and add something significant to the offense right now. I'm not saying he couldn't, I'm just saying that I trust the coaching staff to make that determination.
To me, the only guy I would think of replacing would be Stuckey. Coles and Cotch are obviously set. And the other 2 guys are great special teams players. And the thing about Stuckey is, he has been pretty productive.

Having ruled out swapping Clowney for Coles, Cotchery, Smith, or Wright (all for the aforementioned reasons which should be obvious), I guess what I am really saying is: None of us have seen enough of Clowney to demand that he be swapped for Stuckey (who has been somewhat productive), while the coaching staff has seen plenty of him every day in practice and has yet to replace Stuckey with him.

I can agree that we haven't seen much of Clowney. However, I've seen plenty from Stuckey to realize that he adds nothing that we don't get out of Coles/Cotch. Clowney got cut from Green Bay because Jennings and Jones were the best deep threat options. I've seen enough of Stuckey to realize that if Coles/Coth/Stuckey are all on the field at the same time, the defense doesn't have to adapt its scheme at all. Just the fact that Clowney is blazing fast alone should at least cause some shift in defensive scheme. And I guess if it doesn't I'm more than happy to see Favre at least get an opportunity to throw a deep ball where the receiver has 3+ steps on the DB. With the 3 receivers we have now, this only happens if someone bites on a PA or falls down. Clowney will likely just be plain faster than the DB/S/LB trying to guard him.

    Not Toon. Wesley Walker.

    we have 2 number 2 Wr's and a couple of Three's.

We have on speed on the Perimeter.

Look at the one pick that Brett threw on Sunday. No way he overthrows Clowney on that route. (No way he overthrows coles 5 years ago...)

I hear you and you make a very good argument. Just remember that the coaching staff looks at it as putting the 5 best overall receivers on the roster and thery obviously think that Stuckey is a better overal receiver than Clowneey. I can't question their decision based on the fact that they see both everyday in practice. I agree though, it would be great to have a burner as one of the five. Hopefully Clowney can develop enough to get on the active roster some point soon.

Well, both Toon and Walker could stretch the field but I hear ya.

    Remember Lamb Jones

Yes speed is great but you also need receivers that can catch the ball. I person all think Smith is a bust and would be for replacing Smith with Clowney. I know Smith is good on special teams but lets give Clowney a shot and see if he can stretch the field.

I would agree that Smith has not had much of an impact as a WR. But he's a wonderful special teams player. Smith and Wallace together, are probably the best tandem of any players on a kickoff coverage unit in the entire NFL. As a result, the Jets are one of the best teams in the NFL on kickoff coverage. I just think it's such a valuable strength of the team. I really don't want to fuck with it.

This is why I still feel it should be Stuckey. He doesn't add any dimension that we don't already get from someone else.

Yeah, I agree that if it should be anybody, it should be Stuckey.

Bob Hayes (although not cut by his drafting team, the cowboys) had stone hands but was one hell of a decoy. If Clowney (who was decent at VTech) catches one, or two, he becomes a strong decoy.

Why all the love for Clowney? The guy caught some passes against 2nd and 3rd stringers 3 months ago.

    Yes he is fast.

But how many plays will you see him on the field to make any kind of impact? Smith and Wright can help in other areas. That's why you keep them where they are.

Good video - But I counted to 6 hattiesburg mississippis of pass protection
Maybe Clowney works if there is excellent pass prot (note how Ratliff can step up on that throw) or out of SG in empty back field form. As well as fighting the 1st team CB contact at the LOS. But he is fast and obviously can catch - there are several excellent receptions of Clowney's when he was at VT I say give it a shot now?

Lets put him on the field and see what he's got against a 1st string defense with Brett Favre throwing him the ball. He was the talk of training camp and preseason. Why not give it a try? Put Stuckey inactive for a game and let's give Clowney a chance. if he doesn't preform, then go back to Chansi

Because he brings speed to the WR core that we don't have.

We know he did it against 2nd and 3rd stringers but if we don't try him out against 1st stringers how will we know his potential?
