Yeah, I figured he would catch some flack for that. You really shouldn't put internal issues out there to the public. If he had a problem with his reps he should've talked to Shotty personally.
I said in the other Clowney thread that he really needs to apply himself more and get his ass on the field. The only thing that "tweets" in nature are baby birds. For a guy that went from the GBP practice squad to the Jet inactive list, I'm not sure exactly what it is he finds so interesting that he has to share..
It almost time for so many posters to admit clowney is not the answer. Almost still a little hope he makes himself useful
It was good for Rex to do what he did but I think Clowney has a point. He's done good in preseason 2 years in a row and he hardly gets a shot to play. And don't give me this excuse because he's a one trick pony that only goes deep or because Sanchez is a rookie. That's BS IMO
LOL. Rex: If you don't put the team first, I'll take you out back behind the shed... Clowney via Twitter: Coach just killed me about five minutes ago.
even with clowney not playing this team still needs another explosive player to emerge and be able to put points on the board. Especially this week against the saints. This player has to most likely come from the players already on this roster. This could be the key to launching this team to win the division or make wild card.
What evidence is there to prove he isnt a one-trick pony? Clowney has dominated in the preseason against 3rd and 4th string guys (generally) running the go route. Has he even caught a pass shorter than a bomb? As soon as he is on the field the defense just drops back, they know he is only running a single route...
Take it away. Disallow it. That's it, period. Do it and you're gone. A major distraction, so just prohibit tweeting altogether and be the first team to do it. Take away the nonsense (until the season's over) and then they can twitter their asses off after they either win the SB or they're eliminated. Concentrate on each weekly opponent, not the tweets. Anything wrong with that?
I don't think it's a good idea. I think it's good what Rex did with Clowney. Have someone monitor the players' Twitter and if they say stuff that's out-of-line, then discipline them. Rex is all about letting the players speak their minds, as long as they're not putting themselves ahead of the team; doing what you say would contradict that. Players like to communicate through Twitter, so don't take that away from them. In my opinion, that's going down Mangini Avenue.
He caught one pass last year against Buffalo which wasn't a go-route for about 25 yards. All I'm saying is give him a chance..putting him in for 1-2 plays isn't doing anything.
I agree that we don't want to go down Mangini Avenue. Yet, having monitors contol what players are tweeting is not so cool either. Players who like to tweet are going to be looking over their shoulder going, "Man, who TF is looking at this now? How do I know I've crossed the line and what kind of discipline am I in for if I tell the world such and such?" There's a lot of nonsense that comes out of TC and regular season with Twitter, and also a lot of not-so-much-nonsense. Who's to say that Bill Belichick doesn't have a new, appointed "Twitter Czar" to look over the tweets and glean information, maybe more information than he could have gotten in the old days by videotaping practices? Seriously, think about it. Is it so necessary, really? Why? Just because players like to do it? Players in the old days liked to go out to bars and drink the night before games too. And light up some cigars while they're at it. Does that make it necessary that it be allowed back then? No... they established curfews.
I agree having a Twitter monitor is controlling, but I'm trying to find middle ground here. As far as how the players would know what's okay and what isn't: lay down some ground rules. Rex can say, "X is off limits. If you're caught saying X or something along its lines, then you'll be disciplined." And I think that's fair. Regarding boozing the night before; that's a wee bit different. That's a behavior that affects the players' bodies which (obviously) directly affects their on-field play. Getting wasted a night before the game and consequently only getting four hours of sleep - along with awakening with a hangover - is worse than posting 160 character sentences on Twitter. That's why the curfews were implemented. But it's not like players cannot go out at all, which seems like what yer suggesting with Twitter -- remove it completely.
mortreport Jets WR David Clowney griped about playtime on Twitter after Pats game so Big Rex gave him none Sunday. You guys called it.
I'm old school and IMO, if you're gonna talk shit, be in a position to do it. Clowney isn't contributing to this team. In fact, Clowney's contributions so far make Gholston look like a 10 year starter. Not only can he NOT beat out Stuckey. He can't beat out Smith for an occasional trick play. He's not even a freakin decoy. JFC! What does he do to improve his situation? Tweet on the sidelines and bitch about lack of PT. I'm beginning to see why he was only on the Packer practice squad with a HOF QB on the roster. Perhaps it really "is what it is..." David Clowney needs to concentrate on getting his game together instead of bitching on twitter.
Listening to Rex talk about it in his presser, this struck me as 'tough love'. Rex likes Clowney a lot. He said straight out 'You won't find a bigger David Clowney fan than me.' He sees a ton of talent and potential, but he wanted to get it clear that no player is above the team. Apparently Clowney did all the right things this week, because he is already out fo the doghouse, from appearances.
