If you believe that to be the QB then yes, if you don't believe him to be the QB then no...it's a wasted pick if you don't believe he's the guy.
No way I make the trade. A 50% chance on a potential franchise QB who would fit in your spread offense is worth more than Philly's picks, whatever they are. Besides, any future picks wouldn't be worth much, because Philly would probably be going deep into the playoffs with Mariota, so their 1st next year would be close to being a 2nd and their 2nd a 3rd. As it is, future picks are usually valued down a round anyway, so in effect the Jets would be getting 3rd and 4th round picks next year.
I'm not a Geno Apologist. Far from it. You're commenting on a post where you didn't bother to read the question. Grade F for Fail. The question was IF the Jets don't think he's the Qb...no statement of that he wasn't the choice or was. It was a Hypothetical question based on hypothetical information that the Eagles may try to trade up to get him. Read the question, then make an intelligent comment....for once.
We're wasting our time and energy. Some of these guys don't get it and never will. They are delusional that you can build a winner without a quality QB.
My reply was embedded in my quote. I accidentally deleted your quote. You are dead wrong. Read it again. _
Saw this scenario on bleacher report. If Mariota is there, trade with philly. We get there 1st, 3rd, 5th and Foles. No future picks. To me this is a no brainer. Foles is 14-4 as a starter. My question is who do you pick at 20? Beef up the OL? Take CB Peters? I know a lot depends on what moves we make FA. Say we get Torrey Smith, Franklin from the broncos, and Cro at the least.
The only way we don't draft Mariota if he falls to 6th is if the Eagles blow our sox off!! Mariota is a very good fit in Chans spread offence! If the eagles want him I would want 1st 2015 2nd 2015 1st 2016 2nd 2016 Nick Foles If they don't want that draft Mariota and let him develop under Chan a very QB friendly OC.
I hope is abundantly clear to all Jet fans that the trade with the Eagles is a pipe dream. First off, if the Eagles want Marriota they will totally lip frog the Jets and trade with someone that is not interested in drafting a QB. They will not, ever, take any chance to be raped by someone that wants a QB bad like us. Secondly, and perhaps most importantly, the new regime is smart enough to know that the number one priority for the Jets is a franchise QB. The opportunity to be in a position to potentially draft such a candidate rarely presents itself. When it does you grab it. The Jets have no other choice. If the Eagles think Marriota is worth the first round pick so are the Jets, or at least I sure hope so.
I think Macc should demand 2 firsts *in this year's draft* (plus additional compensation in this and / or future drafts) to move out of #6 if Mariota is still in the board. The offensive talent at the top of this draft is too good to forfeit the potential opportunity here and defer til next year. For that reason, unless a 3-way deal can be worked out, Cleveland probably makes more sense as a trade partner.
Having to wait until #20 for our first pick would be torture. You're at the mercy of all 19 teams picking in front of you.
Honestly there are a number of receivers who I like almost as much as Cooper that will be available bottom of the first and in to the 2nd and 3rd rounds. The depth at receiver isn't what it was last year where there were very highly rated receivers going in the 4th or 5th rounds but that said.....
If Winston is gone I'm trading with Philadelphia. OL/WR can be taken in later rounds and suffice. If the QB you think is a franchise QB is there for you, you take him. I'd rather have 2 first and second round picks for the next couple years. That way if someone else you deem a franchise QB is available, you have the ammo to go grab him. All a moot point, Philly will try to jump the Jets for Mariota, they wont be trying to jump Chicago and Atlanta.
1. If they are not that desperate: 1 2 3 this year, and 1 2 next year AND Foles. [20th pick IS pretty low. Remember that. AND QB is pretty valuable position - probably more to Kelly than anyone else.] 2. If they are indeed desperate: 1 2 3 5 this year, 1 2 3 next year, and again, Foles. [Ain't happening - but can't hurt to ask.]
No one has figured this out yet. Honestly the only 2 teams 8 see trading up for Mariota are the Jets and Browns, in that order. Eagles come into play only if he gets by the Jets IMO.
I agree to an extent. I think Nick Foles has franchise QB potential as well. If we get Foles back in the same deal, then to me, I would absolutely make the deal. I think that Kelly making a deal to get Mariota is overstated, because I think it would be cutting off the nose to spite the face. Foles is not the problem in Philly in my opinion.
