I disagree. You don't draft a one-dimensional situational pass rusher at #6 imo. That high, he'd better either excel at dropping into coverage as well or playing the run. If the Jets think they can develop his skills so that he could be a 3 down LBer, then ok, but not over Mariota. I like Beasley and would be happy with him if the Jets traded down a little perhaps. I'm hoping for Mariota at #6, but if he's gone, I want Fowler. If Fowler's gone too, then I hope the Jets will either take White/Cooper or trade back and either take Beasley or the best LT prospect.
What makes you think Fowler is an all around LB? Guy is a pass rusher too, just happens to weigh 265... vs Vic 245
Have you seen Fowler play? I haven't seen him a lot, but in the games I've seen him, he looked pretty good against the run. I haven't ready any scouting reports that point that out as a weakness, either.
We dont We already have an oversized OLB (coples) who is good at settinf the edge and a downhill mlb (harris)....we need a rusher to get pressure on QB, right?
Personally, Florida is my second favorite team (almost went there until Michigan far surpassed their financial aid offer) so I've watched every game he's played. He was similar to our very own Sheldon Richardson in that he was so athletic, they put him everywhere on that defense and he excelled. He has a very high football IQ and motor. In terms of purely rushing the passer, he has a wide variety of moves. Beasley is more of a speed rusher, which is all fine and good, but he has a higher bust potential. Not saying he can't or won't be better, but he certainly has a higher bust potential. Fowler has some of the most violent hands I've seen coming into the draft. He can beat you outside, inside, or go right through you. He has a very wide arsenal of pass-rushing moves, which keeps offensive linemen on their toes.
Gotcha and I agree...nonetheless if we hit on an OLB in rd 1, this d will be top 5 good...... Revis-Gilchrist-Pryor-Cro? Possibly Dante Foweler jr-Demario-Harris-Coples Wilkerson-Snacks-Richard
That is Fowler. Fowler isn't over sized. Coples is not an OLB imo. I think he should be traded to a 4-3 team.
I prefer Fowler to Beasley, but I'm not sure Fowler gets past the Jags. If the Jets want Beasley, he would have to be picked at 6 because I don't think the Falcons pass on him.
Disagree 100%. An edge rusher is one of the most important players in today's NFL. I don't care if he is a one trick pony. The whole game is predicated on getting to the QB. I would probably take Beasley over the rest. There is no comparison to Gholston. With that said, the pick is MM if he is there. This team still needs their future QB.
If we wanted to keep a 1 trick pony, Aaron Maybin would still be on this team - we also have Jason Babin to fill that particular role. You have to be able to do both stop the run and rush the passer off the edge - we need a complete player at 6. If we want a 1 trick pony, we should wait for Nate Orchard in the 2nd round. Below average run defender, EXCELLENT pass-rusher. Here are my options at 6. 1) Fowler 2) Mariota 3) Cooper 4) Gregory 5) Trade down BTW, I believe Randy Gregory can still be a very good player at the next level. Even though he's lighter (right now anyway), he's a better overall prospect then Beasley IMO. Not scared to get dirty and help stop the run. Unbelievable Motor. People said Bridgewater was too frail to play QB and now I'm sure he's going to be much stronger next season. Same will apply with Gregory IMO.
Agree and i actually like him better then fowler. he is so explosive. id love for us to draft him if we go LB. i think beasley is the best pass rusher in this draft. he lived in the backfield
yea... i think fowler will go ahead of him and gregory maybe... and they will be good players. but then beasley will have like a 13 or 14 sack monster season and everyone will look back and be like why didnt he go ahead of them.... kind of like with odell beckham vs. mike evans and sammy watkins
I LOVE Vic Beasley, he basically animals his way to the QB through sheer will, you teach this guy a couple of NFL moves and hell be a Pro Bowler for 8 to 10 years if he is healthy, he's be amazing on the defense we have now
Fowler and Gregory are far more polished but neither one has the hunter instinct that Beasley has, Beasley lacks the polished moves they have but they lack the animal instinct to kill the QB that he does, I'd take him every day over both of them just because technique in the trench falls more times than tenacity, maybe trade down for him because you could get him lower but don't act like he is some jag, he is an animal and that's what Bowles needs to make his defensive attack effective, not players who are just technically sound to compliment their swift moves, I want a guy that may bite the QB in the face on accident, he moves with the message that you will get hurt if he reaches you The Gholston comparisons, come on, VG bench pressed and roided his way to the QB, there was no real pain there just rage, Beasley has the quick feet and swivel hips and uncontainable arm movements that offensive lineman get frustrated by and start holding, this guy is really an animal that needs a short leash
Fowler Beasley White Cooper Just get one of them on this team. Fwiw, mock drafts I'm seeing have fowler and white going top 5.
