What Cleveland does at #5 has implications as well....if they take Crabtree...that could trigger a Braylon Edwards trade w/ Giants....which could have a domino effect on Boldin's trade status (Philly? Jets?)....or if Cle passes on a wideout at 5.....then maybe the Giants turn to Boldin if they don't use their 1st rounder on a WR. So many possible scenarios.
To be honest, I read a report earlier this week that Crabtree rubbed Mangini the wrong way, and Mangini has all but crossed him off his board. So I don't believe its a smokescreen, and i think that Cleveland is that top 5 landing spot for Tyson Jackson that Gil Brandt has been talking about. Also if our guy isnt sitting at 17, dont rule out a funky trade back with the Browns. We get #36 and Edwards, they get 17. Works out to a low middle second rounder for Edwards, pick 48, the Giants by comparison were offering a deal close to the #57 overall pick (a package of their second rounder and fifth rounder) heck of a move by us imo... reeks of the insane trades Mike T has pulled off. remember the TJ trade for a swap of picks in the second round? pure genius, and pure Mike T imo. plenty of guys at #36 who we are reported to like will/might be around for us. Donald Brown, Jarron Gilbert, Larry English, Darrius Butler and many more.
i like that trade back scenario a lot better...if we nabbed Edwards, I'd be ecstatic.....but don't play with my emotions like that, nyjrule...its too close to the draft for such shenanigans
Hey i have been a trade down fan for 2-3 weeks now, I was called out for saying there is no value at 17, i was wrong in that. There is so much value at 17, that we can flip that thing to get exactly what we want. I really love that trade down scenario for Edwards, much more than my comparison trade down with Zona for Boldin. it gives us two picks in the top 52, plus Braylon Edwards, that seems ideal for me. Say at 36 we steal Donald Brown and then at 52, we somehow kidnap Jarron Gilbert? my god i would cry! now im playing with my own emotions god damnit!!
Everybody should be a trade down fan. I cooled on Braylon Edwards as soon as he threw that $10 million figure out there.
I must be getting caught up in the pre-draft hype myself. It occurs to me - how will we feel if the Jets go through the draft and don't use a high pick on a wideout or trade for one of the top vets out there like Boldin? And meanwhile Boldin goes for something less than the Jets' #1 at 17? I like to predict the future less than some, but I am pretty sure I would feel lousy if that scenario came to pass. If the Jets could get him only if he passed a physical, I am coming around to hoping they make a competitive offer for him.
